Anyone know what model Yamaha they robbed for the front brake master cylinder? Mine's seized solid and every model year of the FZR1000 seems to have a different part numbered master cylinder. The piston/seal/repair kits are all different part numbers too. There is no identification on it other that 8430 stamped on the side which doesnt align to any part number i can find. |

Have you tried looking in the spare parts manual for the part code number??….Bimota didn't try to reinvent the wheel....if it was a Bimota specific part...it had a bimota specific code/part number...similarly if it was another manufacturer...be it Ducati etc...they "tried" to use the same part number that those manufacturers used..... |

Just been looking at Yamaha parts diagrams for different model years of the FZR1000. It’s very definitely a Yamaha part as it bears the legend YAMAHA across the lid. I have not looked at the Bimota parts books yet though. |

Having got the thing apart the issue is the age of the fluid. It’s obviously absorbed water and turn crystalline particularly around the piston which has seized it solid. I’ve run all the parts through the ultrasonic cleaner and now rebuilt everything and it’s working fine.
I might just fit a Brembo master cylinder I have in the SB6 hoard as the brakes are wooden and consign the original to my box of OEM parts to preserve originality if any future owners want that. |

They are not a great master-cylinder, always a bit spongy no matter how well rebuilt-bleed. Put a good one away for bike providence, but brembo, R6 R1 will pull you up better. |

Brembo master cylinder fitted and bled. Nice firm lever and the reservoir is at the right angle. Now on to the next job of trying to work out why i have no neutral or oil light. |
