Do you think the stock mufflers would be the same inside as these ‘race’ mufflers? Meaning, will the stock mufflers have a straight through baffle or a different series of baffles to make them more quiet? If that’s the case then simply packing these ‘race’ cans tightly may give me the result that I want..... loud but not offensively loud and tinny.

From shining a torch up the stock cans, no, they're not the same construction, and they're not a straight through adsorption muffler like a glass packed can. Just wrap it relatively tight and it'll be as loud as it's going to be... if you want it louder, roll some alloy sheet around half the length of the perforated tube and wire it in place, then wrap with the wadding.

Cool thanks Ben, that’s the kind of info I’ve been chasing. I’ve ordered some packing material, so will give it a go

The standard cans have a staggered baffle with a sort of cross over chamber and smaller perf tubing , like most standard can arrangements.
The interesting thing is your rear pipe work has the primary can in it. My race pipe does not have the primary can in the single collector pipe , its just a 70mm ( or whatever ) pipe from the joint to the silencer split.

These pipes look the same as my stock pipes other than the plate welded on which has ‘race use only’ stamped on it. Maybe they are a modified stock set? I’ll measure the size of the pipes and compare with the stock ones tomorrow

I think they're whats called "Cored" pipes. You start with a standard system and change the internals of the cans. The "Race" cans also have wider outlet pipes (the bits that stick through the seat unit).

Which could mean the internal dia of the baffles is larger too

I’ve compared these mufflers to the standards mufflers from my bike without pulling the end cans apart again. Externally they are identical, same size pipes except for the tips that exit the cans.... these tips are larger diameter. The welding on the tips is sub-standard so I’m guessing these are definitely modified stock mufflers.

I'm guessing that if I ground off the plate I would find the same stamping on this one as on the stock pipe. I don't know why anyone would go to the trouble of making the plate and welding it on, unless the modification was done at the factory?

So they don't have to get type approval for a bike with these on I guess.

Welding on the tips of the "race use only" pipes doesn't look particularly factory - I suspect these are modified stockers vs the Lafranconi built race cans Boris has.
It looks to me like there might have been a full stainless skin under the alloy (like the thread on gutting DB4 cans) and it's been cut with a grinder up at the inlet end of the can?

Over the years Ive repacked My Termignoni Carbon mufflers on my 996 and done a few of my mates mufflers as well.

I removed the old packing that seems to separate after a while, leave the stainless gause , wrapping the sheet muffler matting tighty around the inner core until its slighty bigger than the muffler skin, I then compress the matting with masking tape so that it slides in easy. If you don't pack them tightly the packing seems to move and end up at the end of the muffler.

I think because your muffler core is straight through its still going to be louder than your standard ones, which are not I presume.

Youre not the only one.....The opposite I've seen...where someone has put very neat plates onto a Zard Squishy carbon can end system on a Db5...with no baffles...but then had beautiful alloy plates made up....in black...with the E13 words and Db levels and specs written into it...just like "the real thing" to be able to get his bike reg'd and help with being pulled over...as the plates are real wonderful, professional
