just done an oil and filter change on the YB10. Who ever did it before put the outer cover on upside down and left the washer out. What's with the spring and plug thing in where the drain plug goes, never seen that before Any one got any ideas? What happens if I just put the drain plug in and not all the spring gubbins ?

I suspect you have removed the bypass valve, rather than the sump plug - all of that gubbins needs to go back in again and the sump plug, which is on the left-hand side of the sump and may have a cross head screw in its head, should be used for draining the oil.
