It's not the tyre size when it's cold it's the hot dimension that matters _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

100% agree.
I ended up ordering the 180/55
Figure it means that the Monster S4 and the Bimota will run the exact same brand and size tires. Should make serving/buying parts easy. |

?? What did you mean there? Tyre dimensions don't change from cold to hot. |

There is probably some imperceptible change due to the rubber molecules heating up, but in my 40 years of racing, I've not come across anyone talking about tyres changing dimension when hot.
Heating up the tyre is similar to increasing pressure. Pump up a tyre to 100 psi that is made for 30 psi and it will not perceptively change its dimension. |

beg to differ but when I fitted a rear hugger to my TL1000S it (just) cleared the tyre ok. First run out and it was scrubbing on the rear tyre.
Also, if my trials bike rear tyre is flat (slow puncture) it catches on the side-stand bracket bolt. If I put 5psi in it, it clears it. _________________ Bimota SB6 and Benelli TNT 899S road bikes.

Tyres grow in circumference at speed due to centrifugal force. That is why your tyre hit the hugger.
And of course a flat tyre is a different shape to an inflated tyre. That is not related to heat. |

You can easily test if tyres will change dimensions with heat using a set of tyre warmers.
Measure the overall height and width when cold, heat the wheel using your tyre warmers, which are usually around 80°C, and then re-measure. Let me know the results. |

Bit different when the tyre is turning at 160mph! |

That's right. That's centrifugal force, not heat. |

Everything gets bigger with heat and rubber will get softer as a result. It's just something you should be aware of _________________ Don't read everything you believe |
