Admin and or anyone else.

Now getting on famously with the lost Cagiva Bimota Vtwin 500 build....more pictures and hand drawn images .
Want to post BUT is the correct venue or can you move this thread to BIMOTA CHAT rather than V DUE as it really is not...even if the engine is.

...and it might upset the purists!

regards
Gavin

Bikes looking great Gav...loving the Over the top front end with Harris yokes and Ohlins Race forks and Brembo MOnoblocks…..and high exiting rear end jolly motos….

Have you decided on a paint scheme yet for it? Going to replicate the Lucky Strike/Explorer colour scheme?

Having just found this build on the forum... I got lost with the last set of photos... that bike doesn't have Gavin's home built frame... what have I missed, has there been a frame change?

Nah...DB1860.....It me messing about with Gav......whos a mate....those are his pipes that are in the picture....whoch he had copied from a set of Jolly moto pipes but to match the layout for his Supercity....

The bike in the pictures is a track/race vdue thats being built by another....and I tried the pipes on for size before taking them away for Ceram coating...

Normal service will be resumed when Gav is less busy

Okay that makes sense... It will be an awesome track bike, having raced two strokes many years ago and loving them... apart from the maintance. the thought was to track a VDue, but I struggled with getting my head around the size of it as I was expecting it to be DB1/916 size... after all its a Vee twin.

Hello..........build time, final assembly starts next week.

2Bims has organised the engine recall mod things

Pipes are with in the north being rubs in carbon and made BLACK

Frame is powder coated and bright alloy is now black alloy.

I need to know which regulator/rectifier to use....ideally a MTS1200 unit as I have one of them or just indicate what Motoset model to buy.
Zeeltronic is here....servo motor is aswell and the Yamaha r6 carb fuel pump is being readed.

A chance meeting with a Kawasaki Supertwins racer left him £100 richer ...me poorer and his bike with no spare race radiator.
...75mm of triple core italian workmanship.

Wheels are white and my beautiful hand made alloy tank has taken a beating to get the rising rate system in the gaps.

A set of PFM discs are being mated to some carriers and new spindles front and rear have been machined from solid.
.....as there was a shortage of hollow spindles in Italy!

Images will follow...but please give me the regulator recifier details

regards

Gavin

Right...........we have a tank....we have an engine...the pipes ...some wheels...forks and a CNC machine.....and a welder called JAMES.

The last published images were of my pipes on a track bike...

track bikes are not allowed to have the pipes or anthing after the dimension of the rear wheel.

The northern chappie (MICK C) who is building this one, wantted to see if my pipes are shorter...they are!

My pipes took 6 months and a Hernia operationn to get fabricated.

Tony Green in Royal Wooton Basset did the work and had the operation.

I sent him the bare frame (not fully welded) to get his lines and pipes to fit in JULY 2019.

[/img]IMAG0327 by bear (as in animal ..not gay idol), on Flickr[/img]

By December he called to say come and collect.....admittedly I had bolted on the machined yokes and bars....as well as some KTM forks and lightweight Cagiva wheels.

[/img]

Whith the basic frame, went the bolt-on Cagiva Supercity rear sunframe tail light assembly .......in order to get the one stinger each side as I wanted.....here is the roughly tacked Cagiva rear tail piece subframe

Next up .....was the hand crafted alloy tank (loosely fitted) in order that the tank, engine and pipes all looked correct and a sight line given.

Once finished, the bike came back to Essex and after a factory move from BOREHAM to LITTLE TOTHAM...the bike could be finished....I hate moving workshops.

But a compulsory buy out for a Gypsy Site, made James's life a bit easier...although I miss giving the Gypsy pony a carrot, when I can.

The OEM breaker supplied SuperCity bodywork, smelling of weed and cider graced the new frame......like a lovebite on Kylie.

Some shots of the tank......before

and this

To this.............it nearly BROKE my heart...

and this...............

Just to accomodate the rising rate suspension system copied from a Cagiva Race bike

The mock up had used a section of 30mm by 10mm by 6mm as the rear strut and was good enough to map out the expansion pipe lines and general lay out.

But fitting the rocker arm and shock meant a whole section of cutting and changing in order to get things to fit.

Also.... this allowed the tank to sit further down on the frame (as planned) and needed a relief section where the frame tube ran.

More to follow

Gavin

'Why does it have to be ARTY?' asks James

Because a Genius once imagined this....and drew something ..something that no one has ever seen...this is a Bimota Cagiva concept V500

'Okay...but why pipe over pipe and why on earth pipe to big bosses'

Because we can...............and it mimics the Cagiva GP race bikes before alloy frames. this much is fairly known, Cagiva started the boss to plate system and Bimota moved it on a bit.....

if this was a Bimota build, the engine would be attached to 20mm alloy plates and inturn the alloy plate would bolt up to and into steel tubes.

The bike was beginning to take shape.

And anyway..... we were incorporating a cheap pressed OEM rear subframe unit and a headlight unit....we can afford to be stylish with the rest of it!

We just got to keep welding....and for the next 15 hours in total

And then.....keep welding ...until there is no more to weld

That threaded boss in the triangle bolts the tank down as the of the tank locates on two rubber bosses screwed into a cross section.

Once welded............coat in WD40 and rub down taking off any weld spit or brazing....as in the pipes.

more to follow

The local PIG FARM....I kid you not .......has a Spray Coating Company who has just invested a six figure sum in new coating process system.

They took the frame and worked from Wednesday night to Friday evening to finish a 4 stage process......one of which probably was clean the pig shit it has just fallen in...off

I forgot to say...............the rocker and shock mount system was a nightmare as Cagiva used to build the frame complete and THEN cut out a section after welding for the chain run.

James...........we have to copy!

If you are going to do it.......might as well do it properly!

Here you can see the cut out for the chain run

The finished article MINUS the front and rear tail light subframes.

I have to weld on to the front subframe...twin head light brackets and a area to house the Lithium battery....on the rear unit.

Next............ we start to put the sprag clutch modified engine in and get it up on its wheels.

Good night

Gavin
