If its a Regina then its probably the original chain, I think the diameter of the pins are a different size to the Jap chains. |

Thanks Dave. I doubt it’s the original chain, but it’s possible I guess. Doesn’t look like is done 28000 klm, but then again we’re not talking 200hp pulling it along either _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

New parts have arrived, so time to crack on. Belts, belt tensioner bearings, valve cover gaskets, steering head bearings. The fixed belt idlers in this photo are good 2nd hand items out of my DB4. The bearings still felt fine in the ones taken out of the DB2 Junior but the outside of the rollers had some corrosion, the ex DB4 ones are much better.

I called Ducati to check price and availability on the plastic inner belt covers. The inner cover for the horizontal cylinder is no longer available and nil stock. The one for the vertical cylinder is still available from the factory.... 3-4 weeks delivery, so I’ve decided to reuse the old cover, minus the bottom piece which fell off once I removed the cover. The rest of the cover looks to be intact.
Just for shits n giggles I priced new pulleys and fixed idlers as well..... the pulleys are still available and in stock but he started talking in the hundreds so I switched off, the fixed idlers (wide roller) are $92.40 each. I’m reusing the old ones, which are still serviceable anyway.

New belts on and tensioned....
Next up, I’ll check the valve clearance. If I need any shims, I know an ex Ducati mechanic in town that still works on these, I should be able to swap mine for the correct size hopefully

Valve clearance on all valves, open and close we’re within spec so that saved me chasing shims. I don’t know any history on this bike, the belts looked like they were pretty new to me but I changed them to be safe.... the fact that the valve clearance were all in specs also leads me to think that the belts and clearance were both done recently before I bought the bike.
Paint on the ally belt covers is in really good condition. The paint on the rocker covers was starting to flake off so I gave them a sand and re-paint.

I gave the frame a good clean. The paint is in remarkable condition for a 27 year old Bimota with over 28000 klm on it!

Engine back in the frame.... it should go back together fairly quickly now. I’ll just clean up the rest of the parts as I put it back together

Something so simple.... a footpeg and brake lever mounted to a hanger bracket.... nah, let’s put 15 parts into it and call it art 😃
