Carbs came out great Brian. I've gotta get myself one of those ultrasonic cleaners one of these days. How big is your one?

Good pick up on the torn diaphragm. It would have run like shit with the torn one.

As for the poor idle, I'd reckon the pilot jets are still dirty. Very small orifices that plug up, particularly with the rubbish fuels we get these days that don't like sitting around. I use guitar strings to clean them, or you can get oxy welding tip cleaners that are small enough.

My ultrasonic cleaner is the 22ltr version. Just big enough to fit a stripped bank of 4 carbs in. It’s just a Chinese one off eBay.

Pilot jets are definitely clean. Although the pilot jets do seem very big to me. Doesn’t really make sense though as it’s acting like it’s lean in the idle circuit. Pilot screws make little to no difference no matter where they’re set. I’m wondering if the pilot jets are so big that they’re flooding the idle circuit and making the pilot screws useless? I have some other jets and carbs laying around so I’ll keep fiddling

Long story short... I’ve got it sorted. Turned out it was a rookie mistake by me and you were right Lech, I still had a blocked pilot jet.

These carbs are a little different to those on the DB4 and in my haste, I thought that I had removed the pilot jets, turns out I hadn’t, and one of them was totally blocked. Cleaned out, reset the pilot screws and refitted the carbs. I synchronised the, again and took the pilot screws out another turn and it’s running pretty good.

I use a carb tune pro synchroniser and find that it works pretty good. I also use a remote fuel tank that I just made using an old mower fuel tank. It pays to synchronise your carbs every time that you play around with them as they can easily go out of sync. Easy enough to do and it can make a big difference to how the bike will run.

Glad you got the idle sorted. I'll check out those ultrasonic tanks.

I recon the cheapies on eBay are just fine, good enough to do the job and pretty cheap. For amount of use an ultrasonic cleaner gets from the everyday motorcycle hoarder, they seem to last long enough. I heard people say it’s best to NOT use the ultrasonic function while the heat function is still on..... heat first, then turn the heat off before using the ultrasonic.
