Hi everybody !
I own a SB6R for more than 10 years and follow this forum for along time. Most things I know about Bimota I learned from this great forum.
I havenīt introduced myself before (sorry!) and didnīt publish much because writing in English is a considerable effort for me. German would be easier, since I am from Switzerland. Instead of writing much I will include lots of pictures if available.
My garage
Bimota SB6R 1998
MV Agusta F4 1000S 2005
Yamaha FZX750 1991
My SB6R on new side stand
Angle 11° to 12°
Compatibility including hole for spring and steel ball.
A pad of 3mm is added to limit the forward motion.
Increased length
The side stand is approximately 30mm longer than the standard one fitted on SB6R models, therefore it allows the bike to stay parked less sloping, guaranteeing more stability and security. The new design is made of aluminum 7075-T6. It is considerably lighter. The weight is 335g compared to originally 590g.
Manufacturing
The side stand is constructed through the use of CNC machines. The finish is obtained by anodic oxidation.
Design in 3D CAD software CATIA
CNC machining by 3D Hubs |

Hi Ulrich.... thanks for making the effort, your English is much better than my German! We all appreciate photo's, so even if your English isn't perfect all will be forgiven if there's photos .
Nice garage!

nice work Ulrich.
I hope You fit a bolt with a longer shank, and not threads inside that clevis.
My fix was installing an stainless 10 mm allen bolt with lockingnut, at the end of sidestand foot, and attaching a tilting footplate to the modified allenhead. This results in an adjustable side stand :9 Hurra!
The sidestand is hollow and perfect for cutting M10 threads inside
All that of cause required a cutoff on the original sidestand.
Hopefully our mods. does not break or bend one day ?
My mod can be seen on the SB6 Facebook thread.
- and by the way, nice collection.

@gunslinger
Good work! There are many solutions, of course.
By the way, the following offering in ebay is already
a significant improvement compared to the initial SB6R factory design.
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Bimota-Seitenstander-fur-DB3-Mantra/401223485703?hash=item5d6ac88907:g:0G8AAOSwA3dYJGlz
The following picture shows SB6R factory design (top)
and DB3-Mantra side stand (mid).
!
The side stand at the bottom is taken from my MV Agusta F4. It is made of casted aluminium, which brings me to the next point, is aluminium strong enough?
I asked this question a friend of mine who is an expert in the field of structural analysis. According to his assessment is static load is uncritical. Cyclic life, on the other hand, may not be infinite but many thousand cycles and most likely the whole motorcycle lifetime are guaranteed. 7075 aluminium has good mechanical properties and the strength is comparable to steel in many respects. It is widely utilized in motorcycles, car industry etc. Side stands of new super bikes (Ducati, BMW...) are made of aluminium.
@O_Roger:
... be welcome!
Why not share and work together? It saves time and costs. Ordering together, e.g. 10 pieces at once, costs for one side stand would drop to less than 100 Euro, see below bulk prices offered by 3D-Hubs:

Why - alloy can be strong enough it just depends what alloy it is _________________ Don't read everything you believe |
