I was thinking of the yam 1000 exup model which YB8 used parts from i.e. twin headlight and predecessor of the Thunderace after the Genesis?

"genesis" is early FZR1000 (pre-exup), then you had the FZR1000 exup which had motor revisions and then 2x further versions that were basically cosmetic overhauls only i believe
around 98 the R1 appeared with a revised motor whilst still using the "exup" exhaust technology, its a totally different animal............... |

The ThunderAce was revised from the EXUP. The R1 is a complete redesign with the gearbox stacked which in turn changed the frame / swingarm architecture _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

I can't really tell you but I doubt it. I know more about 400's (bear with me on this), They had a Genesis, then EXUP then 3TJ, they're similar to the 1000's.
The EXUP pipes will fit onto a 3TJ and vice versa but they burn the bodywork
Maybe you could contact some manufacturers who've been around for a while like Devil, Yoshi, Vance + Hines etc and see if they have any new old stock and/or hang out on a Yamaha forum and ask around there _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Yb8 runs the same engine as the 3GM FZR1000 sump tilts towards the front. Not sure if the Ace wedges towards the front but wouldn't be surprised as the YZF750 of the same era does also. The earlier Black engined YB's run a different sump and cylinder angle so it is unlikely systems from earlier bikes would suffice.
Be warned those of you who like doing long wheelies on your YB-8's > onwards... They will run out of oil and spin mains |

Hi
I would suspect any race exhaust for the FZR1000 EXUP will fit. Thunderace one probably would as well, but probably not for any mounts under the engine and no doubt it would mean the stock silencer would not longer match up to the standard hanger for it.
All the best

I've always been curious about the difference between the genesis and exup motors. I had always heard about the bank angle differences, but this is not correct.
On proper investigation it turns out the motors are the same in this regard. ie; both have the same cylinder bank angle. So the only difference is the sump, and this is where you will have problems fitting headers not made specifically for the model.
As Edgar Allan Poe said "Believe nothing you hear, and only one half that you see."
Here's the evidence... this long standing myth is busted:

I bought a thunderace Akrapovic system off these boys.(race £580,road£655) , they list the FZR1000 also.
http://www.classicmechanics.com/news/akrapovic-pipe-dreams
Apparently Akrapovic are re-making a limited run of hertiage systems.
I fitted it to the bike on sunday , but have yet to refit the body work , so if you can tell me with areas of the sump you think are different I will take a picture of the YB11 and Akrapovic exhaust.
Performance parts had about 10 sets of the thunderace one left.
Thing that really got me was that the exhaust silencer hanger even matches up on the YB11 , although I think I may have to mod the body work. |
