To coincide with the Schottenring Oldtimers Grand Prix on August 18th and 19th 2012. I'm going to lay on a 'bikers tea party' at my house near Frankfurt in Germany, we did the same last year when 3 Bimotas made it from the UK and 1 Bimota owner from New Zealand!

The event is 2 days of old bikes being thrashed to death on a closed street circuit in the small town of Schotten. Lots of nice stuff turns up, including a YB3 and a YB4R last year, here's the website:
http://www.schottenring.de/Schottenring_Grand_Prix.html
Additionally to the Schotten Oldtimer Grand Prix 80km away, there are also fabulous roads in the Taunus area, the Spessart to the east of Frankfurt, the Odenwald to the south and the Eifel to the west including the' Nurburgring circuit.

So for those who don't want to visit Schotten on both days or even make it a longer stay, there is plenty to do.
here are 2 Taunus motorcycle tours for example: http://www.neu-anspach.de/524.html
and the local air festival is on Sunday August 19th.
The area is famous for walking, mountain biking and spas, a reconstruction of a Roman castle: http://www.saalburgmuseum.de/english/home_engl.htm
and an open air historical building museum: http://www.hessenpark.de/index.php?id=english
and of course Frankfurt city is just 30 minutes away.

and here some links for zoos, swimming pool, amusement parks, llama trekking and all that: http://www.ferienhaus-der-blaue-mond-neu-anspach.de/umgebung.html http://www.eschbacherkatz.de/Aktiv-im-Taunus

Here you can see what's available for accomodation around Neu-Anspach: http://www.neu-anspach.de/284.html and the town of Usingen just 3 km to the north, hotels: http://www.usingen.de/freizeit.php?aktion=hotels&linkid=5&linkid=5 holiday homes: http://www.usingen.de/freizeit.php?aktion=fewo&linkid=5&linkid=5 We will help as much as possible, so if you see something you like, get in touch (PM, with a landline telephone number if possible) and let us know what you like.
Most convenient are the Hotel Zur Eiche which is directly opposite and the Hotel Veltes which is just 100m away.
Camping in Usingen less than 5km away.

For food and drink at ours, we will ask for 'non-profit making' contributions.

Anybody is welcome, even Mantras and non Bimota riders, just let us know if you will be coming by even if you don't need accomodation.

all the best and hope some of you can make it.
Ian

It's a very generous thing you do Ian and I'm sure we'll be dropping by at some stage just (probably) not that week end Wink

very nice of you Oily.
I didn't think of it as generous, just trying to have a bit of fun.
And I do think some people are missing out on Germany as a place to bike to, the weather is not as 'safe' as some other countries, but it's nearer (Frankfurt is just 360 miles from Calais), verging on crimeless so you don't have to worry about anything getting nicked, the people are rediculously friendly to visitors, great roads, the police don't bother you (even the gatsos photograph from the front so bikers are almost imune). And dare I say it? cheap.

I'll probably drop by on the Mantra - it can keep the MHR company in the "ugly corner" Very Happy

no ugly corner in my yard because Thomas next door has an XS1100 Martini, and nobody will be able to top that.

And about being generous, just to be on the safe side and to avoid any misunderstandings: all costs and risks will be your own responsibilty. Normal stuff I think.
And only because the cost of laying on food and drink for 30 or 40 people gets quite expensive- we did a system last year where everybody kept their own tally of what they ate and drank on a card and paid before they dissapeared, like a DIY slate.

Peter Rubatto on the grid with his YB4 at Schotten last year

http://www.schottenring.de/Bilder_GP/Bilder-2011/original/Grid%20Sonderlauf%20Viertakter.html

photo by Mike Riedner on the Schottenring website.

I put another link to his brilliant wheelie pic in my YB4 restoration thread.
Mind you Peter wheelied nearly all the way around.

Hi All,

Thought I would reopen this worthy bimota event chat to say that this week I have booked my ferries and hotels to visit Crankcase (Ian) for the third year.

I have to so say to everyone that this is a really good weekend, Ian and Brigitte's hospitality was tremendous and the day out to the Shottenring is well worth it. Had also forgotten that I'm actually in the pictures above although embarrassingly seem to be reading my phone!, the SB8R is the last pic is mine.

My itinery is
THU afternoon:    Ride Newcastle to Dover(ish)
FRI 17/08/12:      Meet other at Dover for  early morning ferry to Calais
Ride Calais to Neu-Anspach (350 miles)
SAT 18/08/12:     Ride to and day at Schottenring old timers GP
SUN 19/08/12:     Day out exploring some of the amazing local roads
MON 20/08/12:   Ride back to Calais
                           Late Afternoon ferry
Travel home ( or as far as I can get...)

Ian has a hotel about 100m away from his house which I have booked for the three nights, it's really handy and has reasonable rates. I will be going with a couple of others from the ex-enthusiasts club and it would be great if any of you fancy coming along too.  It's great to see a bunch of bimota's all out together, so get yours out of the garage and join us, we all know the real enjoyment of Bimota ownership is using them!

If any of you are interested in joining me let me know, Hope to see some of you there?

hi Andrew
I'll reserve your 'usual' parking space in the yard- getting to be a regular, I'm happy to say.

We've even rebuilt the yard to get more paved space!
We've now got a big round brick thing which is planned to Brigittes herb garden- but it could also be a swimming pool or if we carry on going a light house- price of bricks though! if global warming carries on the coast will be 100 metres from us in 52000 years apparantly, so the light house idea is not so stupid.

We've now got 5 Bimota riders booked in for the weekend from Friday to Monday, and 2 that will only be there on Friday and maybe Monday nights (Switzerland in between) plus the threat of Pompey joining Shocked I hope so, it will be a great ride down for you all. I'll come and meet you at Bad Camberg like last year.

I'm just about to send my usual email to all and local, already got a few 'confirmations' from local guys. So it sounds like it will be a slightly bigger tea party than last year- I'm going to turn people away when we get over 300 Wink

PS if anybody is around but doesn't have a bike to ride- let me know- in response to Owen and Paula who were over from NZ last year and were driving a hire car of course. We've got the Hondas: Deauville, Clubman and Hawk which are always on hand.
And if 'non riders' such as wives and girlfriends would like to join without the bike bit, we can pick them up from Frankfurt airport and they can enjoy the other attractions of the area or just take it easy at our place.

In the meantime, I'm wondering if I should tag onto Howard and Paul down to Switzerland ! ! ? it's got to be a joke Very Happy
'cos I'll be in the Tirol in June anyway Very Happy
enough of all that hairpin stuff.

all the best
Ian

Oily, If you go straight to the ferry after work, we'll just get down to Stuttgart in time for this: http://www.glemseck101.de/wordpress/category/101-in-english/

which has been getting more popular the last couple of years- so I will definitely be going, so long as nothing intervenes.

Same to everybody else, if you'd like to join- I could start the next event post . .

Ian
