What are YB5 owners' experiences with the two types of 18" wheels generally fitted to the YB5? 1) The three spoke Akront 2) The five spoke Campagnolo Tecnomagnesio.
Are these wheels safe to use these days? Is one heavier than the other? Which wheel is better? _________________ Richard |

My Yb5 has the 3 spoke wheels with the Magnesium centers and the alloy rims, I would imagine they would be heavier than the Campagnolo's, but Im fine with that as the bike its self is quite heavy.
Its more of a grand tourer than a sports bike, a joy to ride and show off at the local destination. |

Hi Richard......As DB1 says....bikes are now some 35 years old.....crack testing can be done on Mag wheels to check if "road safe"....but thats only valid when you do the test.....personally if you were worried I'd fit 17inch wheels and then you have no problems in fitting modern decent rubber.....on 18 inch youre most likely to be limited to Bridgestone tyres.....
Weights? No idea....a full comparison has been done on pretty much all 17inch wheels fitted to Bimotas.....be it Oscam, antera, marceshini or even Dymag and BST carbon rims.....but I'm not aware of weights on 18inchers |

Hi guys, I might mention that any wheel that is fitted to a road bike oem would be JL approved, (or similar) that means it is certified for road or track use. If there aren't any signs of intergranular corrosion you should be fine! lol.
The point is they are not race wheels, and are designed with redundancy build in. |

I actually really like the 18" Bridgestone tyres, so I will not change to 17" wheels unless there is a problem with the original 18" wheels.
Has anyone crack tested a YB5 wheel and ever found a problem? I am interested that because they are road wheels, maybe there is a level of over-engineering, and we are all worrying for nothing! _________________ Richard |

Just make sure the bolts holding the spokes to the rims are tight and free from corrosion |
