Youre having a giraffe aint you Gavin.....if that Db1 mini-me was for sale at a 1,000 euros you'd have thrown your bags away and had that as your "luggage"......thought of the cost for that thing being a one off and painted up....3-4K in anyones money
anyhow.....perhaps Bimota should have bought some of this artwork and blown it up as a risque backdrop of their past and the love some people have for the brand.......cellophane acetate acrylic paintings, onto backdrops, and pencil sketches of original design...just showed up today

Hello............all photographs are now sent to Australia to be uploaded.
I am sorry if I feel so dissapointed ...but in reality...I do belive that BIMOTA missed a trick with this show.
There is really no BIMOTA for sale for less than £24000 GBP and the type of buyer and future buyers are not really going to jump through hoops to buy what was on show.
Who is going to buy an IMPETO and then add a new frame?...OK... I might...(but I am a bit of a Bimota fan or fool... you choose).... but I more likely to buy the Impeto and totally re style it with other Bimota parts....not another frame....then add the Supercharger.
I genuinely fear for the future given than you either have to be a mass market supplier with ABS....crash testing..... Type 6 euro emmissions and everything else OR a 150 units or less per annum manufacturer building to order and making a bespoke machine to suit each of your expensive customers.........hello VYRUS _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!

Maybe you could add the carbon when you place the order, y'know seeing as they're building it an all ... it's like up specing the bike.
You should know the Milan show is just an exhibition _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Now it is clearer. If Bimota had off produced a Tesi Framed, Scrambler engined Vyrus 986 Strada look-a-like for about £15,000 I would have bought one. But they can't because of type approval. _________________ Dreaming of a Tesi in the garage. |

I think if what they had at the show is the BEST they could come up with , we all fear.
Lets face it , a few current models with the fairings removed and a round light on them , that was what the other manufactures were doing 8yrs ago , the retro/street market has moved on since then. And a compressor bike that was designed 4-5yrs ago. Please
However the biggest hurdle I think Bimota have is the press. People are quite happy to spend 20-30k on bikes but only on ones the press rave about, and it appears the press love to put Bimota down.
For me the biggest mistake Bimota have done in recent times was to drop out of World Superbikes, as they were actually doing quite well and were getting publicity , but on a world stage they turned this into bad publicity and gave the press all the ammunition they needed.A very silly mistake. To survive in the auto industry you need to put up lots of money and be in it for the long haul.
Many years ago I worked on the new Mini , it was designed at Rover , it is even built in the plant Rover were going to build it in , but Rover's owners put their badge on it . How do you think the BMW Mini would have done as a Rover. Exactly, it wouldn't , but BMW have a fantastic marketing machine, and these days its all about image. |

I don't think Bimota had much of a choice over WSB. They needed to produce more units of the BB3 and I heard the supplies aren't easy to organise. Add in the rule changes away from Evo and they were screwed.
Even if things had stayed on course they wouldn't have been competitive in the next year without changing the riders _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Attention to detail and authenticity on that Db1 scaled down model is unreal....gap lines where original bodywork meets...mini screen, paintwork lines, fixing bolts etc etc....a lot of effort gone into that....wonder where it will get squirrelled away?
Nice billet details on the supercharger thingie also....ohlins front and rear and nice classey headlamp brackets, mudguard supports etc etc.....wonder if thats enough for people to buy one though?? |
