I have to agree I like Chicken's idea. Cutting the narrow part and having 3 dzus fasteners looks like it's been cut as an afterthought, cutting it lower down looks 'factory'. I suppose my judgement is now of little relevance for someone who rode up on a F650 Smile

Thoughts.........

I like the idea of following the line separating the two colors. Not only would it look cleaner, but it would be like having a bellypan similar to a race bike, so a lot of people may think the cut along that line would be factory. The other cut at the narrow section just looks like an afterthought.

What kind of rear stand is this? I've never seen one, and it looks like it would be ideal for raising the rear half of the bike when removing the rear shock...

okay, okay.......
it seems that hiding the join seems to be the popular thing and the object of the exercise is to remove/replace the faring with ease i.e. not struggling to fiddle it around the front wheel.
How about then..........
Just cutting a six inch strip out of the bottom Wink
I could then replace it with two rows of fasteners and make a new panel out of carbon or glass fibre or plastic etc. etc. and just paint it black as it wont be seen as it will be underneath Wink

Thanks! I wonder if they have a distributor in the USA.

Edit - Looks like North America has http://www.bluestreakracing.ca/ as the distributor.

See if you can get a deal on the Anna Supervise Stand and the Front Stand, it makes taking the fairing off a lot easier

Another option. I noticed a nice symmetry between the line of bolts that hold the rear seat on and Oily's first thought. Instead of dzus fasteners you could you use similar bolts to make the line match the rear? It would look factory, and look purposeful. In full view it would look the part. Following a wavy line around the paint scheme looks like you are hiding something.

Orrrrr, if you go down your route of cutting a section out along the bellypan can you mix it with the carbon fibre chip pad idea and make it one big piece in cf that joins both sides of the fairing underneath that have both been cut back equally? makes it a straight pull over the front wheel and brakes and will look very trick if it goes up at the front to protect the oil cooler and rad etc.

Yeah!! at last.
From the begining I did'nt want to try and "hide" the join because, lets face it, your not going to hide a great big gash in the fairing no matter how you do it. The alternative.....make a feature of it Idea
Now obviously, not everyone is going to like the look but as long as it's not offensive I'm ALL for it making life easy Wink
I like your idea of a row of matching bolts Pomps but that brings it's own tecnical problems that I'm going to have to think about like the thickness of the glass for countersinking and the captive nuts on the rear (which I've now solved whilst typing )Laughing

OR.........
I could just whack the fairing back on and leave it all for next winter Laughing

the strip down th middle sounds like the best idea, but leaving it has huge merit imho

Maybe you just need another sb6 shed to work on rather then keep fiddling with stuff that could be left alone as Evilchuck says? Wink

Maybe your right Wink
but this fairing thing has been bugging me ever since my first SB6. Perhaps put it back together and sort the fairing out on the next SB6?
