Anyone up for a run to the great Dams and Nurburgring in August? If so, what are the best dates for everyone, weekdays or weekends etc? Thoughts ....

Good idea Pompey
I suggest to include the weekend of August 18th and 19th as the 'Schottenring' oldtimers 'races' are on, which is a sight worth seeing- classic bikes, including a YB3 and a YB4 racer being thrashed to death on a street circuit for a weekend, it's 200 km east of the Nurburgring.
2 years ago the 'International Bimota meeting' was organised by Klaus from the German Bimota club to coincide.
Last year I had a 'tea party' (don't think anybody drank any tea though) at my house, the same timing- those who came, enjoyed it and are threatening to come back- so I've just decided to do it again!
ANYBODY is welcome and I can help out with accomodation etc.
here's the Schotten website: http://www.schottenring.de/Schottenring_Grand_Prix.html

Lots of rare stuff like this turns up

yes that is a V8 behind it.

back at my house

and Brigittes' 'special supper' Sunday evening for those who stayed a little longer.

notice how the fuzziness of the pictures corresponds to the alcohol content of the photographer

You could combine it with a 'Dams and rings tour' for a whole week away.
Ian

Schotten is 70km away from my house, just enough to have a good run each way plus a bit of a detour for the fun of it.
you can ggogle map the route: nurburgring - Usinger Strasse 21, 61267 Neu-Anspach - schotten

We had the village fete and local airshow on the same weekend last year. Which according to their website will be on again 18th and 19th, it's called the Taunus Flugfest and is 7.5km away. Flugplatz Anspach-Wehrheim.

Last year we split up on Sunday with some people going to the Flugfest, John went back to Schotten for another look and the rest of us met up with Klaus for a meander around the Odenwald and Spessart backroads.

I will drag out the hotel info and stuff on Monday, so you know what awaits here.
Basically there's a reasonable hotel 10m across the road and a marginally more expensive one 100m up the road, plus quite a few B&Bs in the area and even a camp site less than 5km away.

All you have to do is find your way to Nurburgring, and all that . .

Both the "boss" and myself are interested BUT we both have the same problem of getting time off work. That is the busiest time of year for both of us.......
We shall see Wink

excellent Oily, get yourself over here.
Bosses are also welcome.
As far as we are concerned, short notice is not a problem, there are enough places to stay.

PS There are also many other local attractions in the area for people who don't want to spend all their time looking at/sitting on motorbikes- such as the Hessenpark, which is an open air museum for old houses and stuff (3km away), hot springs, a zoo, Frankfurt! a Roman castle (Saalburg),
Llama treking etc.

Brigitte and I had a short discussion about the historical and scientific importance of a 'dambusters' tour. Good to get things out in the open. Rolling Eyes Wink

I do believe this falls within my rostered 18 days-off break in August - will check when I go back to work. Was planning on being somewhere in Europe, so this gives added incentive.

remembering the ugly girl is one thing, waking up with one is another, having one as your permanent ride is yet another!!!
