During the Excel show I was chatting to Marke Whyte on PB Magazine stand. He has the 2003 R1 coverred in fake fur with lots of carbon. He even runs a Dymag carbon swingarm. He found a company in the states Double Dog who make carbon bits for bikes that lack the correct number of cylinders.

They make CARBON SIDESTANDS Exclamation Very Happy Exclamation You can see where we're going with this can't you. http://www.doubledogmoto.com/products/cf.kickstands.html

All Bimota stands are heavy and I know the SB6 6R and 7 are too short but not sure about other models. They way Double Dog seem to make them is a standard CF stand with a vraible alloy top - if our stands can be standardised we can hopefully get more units and therefore get a run.
Prices seem to be $295 - they have a distributer in France so the Europeans may be able to get them through them, there's another in Austrailia too.

I've e-mailed them to start the ball rolling but I think we need 15 units min, is there any inital interest ???

I presume that price is for 3 Laughing

Lets see some pictures and things dude.
Thinking on my feet here but the biggest problem with the Bimota stand is not JUST the length but the fundamental design, angle etc Wink
Don't get me wrong, sorting the length is half the battle but while your at it, the stand could do with a dog leg in it to aid stability.
I'm in, in principle but need more details my good man Wink

You could follow the link to their website for a pic. I don't think a kink would work though, the stand ghas to be away from the chain when it's up.

Yep, followed the link Wink
And yep, you could be right about the kink. Don't think carbon would be strong enough with a kink anyway. Seems their stands are mostly straight anyhoo.
My initial thoughts are.........bloody expensive, couldn't we get them made cheaper?

They do look trick but the wear factor from everyday use and cost etc, etc,
you may be right, Ti could be the way to go.

When I've finished the sb6 project, soon hopefully, I was going to look into a total redesign of the stand I do know of a SB6 that uses a doochatee stand and that works better than the Bimota stand Wink

True, you're milking that project Razz
If the Do-cah-ee stand fits even with slight mods it could be very useful

That all took a long while to realise its OTT, DB2 issue is too short, wrong angle but if it was any longer it would hit the swingarm, and if it had a dogleg then it would fowl the cut out in the fairing or hit the gear change linkage.

My db2 side stand seems to be fine. Although after the debacle that is sb6 in the stand department I may be looking through rose tinted specs. Wink

Thought about this a few times.
As has previously been proved, ALL bimota stands have the same top. Vdue stands on SB6 etc.
So what we need to do is get a batch of alloy/Titanium tops and bottoms made, and then all you need is a length of carbon tube to put between them, and hey presto , can be made to suit all models and correct lean angle !! Simples !!
