|
I am a great fan of Bimota's, especially DB3 Mantra.
I have a yellow one at home in Paris.
First generation, number 303, with original carbon fiber wind shield, rear composite mudguard and beautifull silver grey engine.
She only runs 12.000 Kms today.
Even if she has very low mileage, she needed a total lifting.
So, I decided this winter to restaure it new DUCATI parts and new paintings.
I have replaced :
- all engine gaskets,
- brakes, oil en gas lines,
- all screws replaced by titanium an inox ones,
- batteries,
- belts an covers (carbon),
- tires,
- engine sporket,
- clutch (titanium drum, basket, plates, springs, cover)...
The bike was totaly repainted in dark metallic grey and white pearl.
In fact I have two fairings with all parts (carbon fiber parts, rear tail, rear fender, push riod, gaz tank...).
The only part I'm looking for is the little front mudguard.
If someone want to sell it. I'm strongly interrested.
I would like to fit twin FCR 41 carbs but I don't know if it's possible...
As you can see, I have a lot of work.

Most things are possible but Flatslides are more of a racing carb and the Mantra isn't really a racing bike. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

They should fit. I know a guy who has them on his DB3. This is a picture of it before he repainted it to silver and black...

Thats some serious money spent on a DB3, like the Zorsts and the wheels, wouldn't mind a set of those for the DB4. I think GeeKay might have a word or 2 to say about "not a racing bike"
Love flatslides, have same Keihin FCR41's although on a DB2 with other mods, piggish to start when cold as no choke on them, although I do twiddle with the idle adjustor cable to "choke" it. And when they're good and hot and up to speed they can get a bit irratic, needing twiddling down again, I have a rachable riding asjustor so can twiddle whilst at the lights etc to tune them down. Don't know if you do much mileage but expect circa 20mpg or 30Kms per 4.55 litres, ouch, but they are addictive. Maybe no need to go for 41's though if no engine work done at the same time, big bore 944, stage 2 cams, gasflowed and polished, straight through zorts etc, just stick with 39's , its messing with the air box and whether you have space for K&N cone air filters etc thats the binding issue. routing of push/pull throttle also in a different place for the carbs.
BUT, Bimota did do a FCR39 kit as an add on for the DB4, sameish frame etc, but it had a modified tank and airfilter. |

He's currently got the bike completely stripped, again, and is rebuilding it. The forks just finished being rebuilt a week or so ago.

I'm getting 30-34 mpg out of my DB2 with the FCR 41 carbs. That was with a 14/39 gearing. I have since regeared it to a 14/42 and I don't think it's been effected too much....other than it pulls power wheelies a lot easier. _________________ Look for my books...

Hi Desmo, have you had anything else done to the motor, or is it just the 41's thinking of going that route but its a dangerous and expensive path as one thing leads to another.... |

Wouldn't you get more midrange and torque from the smaller carbs rather than top end and horsepower with the bigger ones ??? _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Would seem to be a popular belief, Bimota did a kit for the DB4 with FCR39's and changed filter, and Corse can, I wouldn't mind going the same way BUT, the petrol tank was also changed on those models to accommodate the carbs.
Reckon the 41's are for when you've had more mods like the big bore, flowed and polished head etc. Not much difference in price either really between the 2. Guy in america was selling 2 sets a 39 and 41, said the highest bidder gets first choice, second highest No choice. |

To the best of my research, the bike has the 944 big-bore kit with head work, K&N pod filters (no airbox), full-race exhaust, and I suspect it probably has a lightened flywheel, also. _________________ Look for my books...
