Hi:

I am looking for info on a KB1 I just purchased in the U.S. I believe that it is a 1978, Frame 0063. It has Suzuki Anti-Dive Forks and Brakes, a Jones Tach, Lockart Oil Cooler, Manual Kickstarter, Martek Ignition, and Uni Air Filters. The bike was last registered in the U.S. in 1987. It has sat under a tarp for 25 Years. It was imported to the U.S. in 1982 with the title showing Bimota Italy as the original owner.

Any info would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum mate. Very nice find. Send it over to me and i'll see what i can find out about it Wink .

Plenty of info on this board. I don't know of many active KB owners here, but there's a wealth of bimota information. Somebody may be able to help you.

Cheers,
Brian

Very Nice bike!

those Bimota star wheels are like hens teeth! The bike is a second series (1980-81) KB1 with the smooth tank and star wheels (according to Sarti's book) although it has a series one frame (1978-9). As Bimota's production was so small it probably left the factory like that.

Cheers, MikeJ.

If you haven't already contacted him, give Bob Steinbugler at Bimota Spirit a call:

He's in NC. Been a Bimota dealer since 1979. Outlasted 3 or 4 Importers.....[/url]

Thanks to everyone who responded. I am getting some good information from a few sources.

Now what to do with it. I am leaning toward simply cleaning it and doing what is needed to ride it. Thus, I would leave most of the patenia. Thoughts.

I also have a super clean 1997 YB11. I'll post some pictiures in the appropriate section.

And...not Forth Worth, but North of North Dallas.

I would say you have the best idea already. leave it as original as possible... Concentrate on making sure all the mechanics are sorted, fluids, bearings, timing, suspension front and rear refurbed and away you go. Laughing Laughing

Hello,

I think those are Bimota's own wheels, rather than the Campags which were fitted to the later bikes. Worth a crack test though, if you're going to use the bike.

Cheers, Mike J.

A very very very nice bike and that’s because I love the engine inside. EmbarassedI wish I had one. Wink

Just one question, I thought there is original a Marzocchi front suspension on it. I'm not sure, because I have no Bimota knowledge…. Shocked

Be careful with the carbs, if I remember correctly there are 28 mm Mikuni carbs installed on it. I know from experience that if these carbs have stood still for a long time they give many problems. Inspect the carb securely and replace any parts that are not reliable.

Success
