Out of curiosity, I have spent a great deal of time researching the origins of this bike's original powerplant. At the time the Tesi was racing, a 907cc motor was as good as it got capacity-wise (from the Paso 907ie). So I often wondered how my bike got a 964cc unit, as stated on the VIN tag and confirmed by period articles.
Well, thanks to some very helpful Ducatisti, I now know.
To replicate the 964cc motor, I need a base 851cc motor. These are not the easiest of motors to acquire, but my agent in Japan has sourced one for me. So thats awaiting shipment from Japan.
To achieve the required 964cc capacity, I also need to bore the barrels to 95mm and have them re-plated. And find some "rare as rocking horse poo" 95mm Ducati 851 pistons. Pistal used to make them in batches of 10 for a Ducati dealer in the USA, but no longer supply them. Wiseco also used to make them, but don't anymore. And don't have any stock left. I have, however, located a pair of new Wiseco's in Australia. They are currently winging their way to the UK.
Next piece of the puzzle is a 68mm stroke crank. I'm on the case............. _________________ Bimota SB6 and Benelli TNT 899S road bikes.
