A question for you sb6 freaks
The airbox has a hole on the L/H front open to the engine side of the airfilter. There was no hose or plug in it.
My question is... is there a hose that's meant to go in it or a plug??
The hose that comes from the top of the tappet cover currently runs straight down the side of the engine and vents to air. Should this hose go into the airbox?
It will route that way and fit... just

Yep, that's the one.......looks like you've still got the original Bimota breather hose Brian. You'd better buy some nice silicon hose to match your new hose kit _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Sweet... that means i've hooked it up correctly. I've had the airbox out a couple times now and this is the first time i've noticed the hole. It's been open like at least since i've owned the bike and god knows how long before i bought it. Maybe the engines dusted, i think i should put a big bore kit in just in case
Not sure if i've got the route of the hose correct as it was very tight to get it where i've run it. Down the left hand side of the engine where it was hanging then straight back through the rubber flap towards the airbox. I tried putting it over the top and down along the frame rail but it didn't look right. Where does yours run Si or oily?
Thanks fellas _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

You'll need to be able to get at the hose to fill the engine oil _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Hello sb6 specialists,
I noticed that the hose from the fairing to the airbox not installed is on my sb6. (Thanks to the pictures of Brian )
Now I wonder if the hose is important for engine performance, will it affect the air flow to the airbox in a better way or can I leave it as it is.
I have my doubts about the air hose, if it does not work then you better let the air hose away, it saves weight.
What do you experts think? |

I have never had the air hose fitted on any SB6 I've owned so can't comment on performance with it, but performance with out the hose is adequate _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

I agree,
But since the airbox was already a critical sized box it perhaps mattered a little.
Aerodynamically it seems not effective, too long too many bends too small diameter.
But maybe I'm wrong. |

mine doesn't have it but it does have the hole for it ... I tried to retro fit one but just gave up, it seems to run ok without it.
You might want to ventilate the airbox on the shock side though. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

There are already holes made, wonder whether it makes any difference.
My opinion is that the surface of the filter element must be greater.

In my opinion... it won't make an ounce of difference to performance either way. What is important though is the open hole in the airbox. It's on the engine side of the eilter so the engine will be unprotected from dust in dusty conditions. If there's no hose PLUG the hole. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

he's talking about the engine breather hose from what i can see, this has nothing to do with filling the engine with oil or anything else?? |

the engine breather is an emissions compliance thing, not performance enhancing or any real downsides either way..........
only thing i would do is if you have the breather hose open to "atmosphere" i would plug the hiole in the front cover, as said above, this will stop the motor ingesting dirt and rubbish
also no reason to make holes on the other side it isn't a fully "sealed" system |

I cut out my airbox on the shock side and it made a huge difference. So much that I had to cover it up with tape until I could order a jet kit.
