Cutting the airbox on the shock side is recomended in the dyna jet kit.
The crankcase breather isn't an emissions thing it stops the crankcase building up pressure due to the pistons going up and down. the end of it can have a small filter put on the end or, more usually, it vents into the airbox. The breather pushes out air / oil vapour so it can do with going somewhere.
The SB6 has the oil filler is hard to use being behind the frame rail so it's easier to fill / top up the oil through the breather pipe. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

the reason it vents to the airbox IS an emissions thing as the factories are not allowed to vent oil vapour to atmosphere, the whole point is its pulled throi the motor and burnt off
as for filling the oil thro it, you need one of these...................

Or one of these http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/trichter-mit-flexiblem-auslauf.html to fit in the pipe.
I read you other reply differently. I thought you ment the breather itself or the reason it was there was an emission thing, of course it isn't. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

The extra air duct pipe was a factory extra , was not an attempt at pressurise the air box, but an attempt to get cool air into it. Only ever seen one for sale on ebay.de a few years ago.
The extra cut out in the airbox was a retro fit. Mine got it at its first service 16yrs ago along with the sprocket cover/clutch actuation mod, thought they would have all had them by now. |

It's not just the air pipe that goes with the mod there's a chromed 90 deg coolant pipe too. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Cover is seriously cut away to clear the frame around the sprocket/cutch actuation rod. Original was down to 2 bolts I think, they then replaced cover with a less cut away item that had 3 bolts from memory. Think there is a thread on here about it somewhere.

My airbox has the same cutout on both sides but it looks like it came from the factory that way? It doesn't look like it's been cut. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

I think perhaps the later ones were factory done as the original dynojet mod, back in the day, was to drill something like nine 1/2" holes _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

I took lots of closeups of the bikes when i had the fairings off but unfortunately I didn't get a photo of the airbox, but mine has the same large opening on both sides. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Two of my three has the same cut out both sides but the other is a home brew cut out done with a rusty chain saw methinks.
These things, as always, get me thinking about things such as a slightly larger, CARBON air box. Mmmmmm _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)
