Yeh Phil..you're right...I made bigger mistakes than that...chain was ordered last minute with a larger order from Kamna.de...bodywork etc etc....Only opened the box this week from 18 months ago....just to wrap around and check if long enough as I forgot to measure the old one...this one came "endless" with no soft link...so just fitted temp for now until I cut the two spare links out later and put a soft link in.....as you say little to no adjustment left with full 94 links....

Off for TOP Gear...got it "on Hold"...... Laughing

Can I ask why you did the crankcase in 2k and the covers in powder coat? I'm about to pickup on the 851 motor again, having just finished the KR1-S The 851 is really pretty damn good. I'm tempted to 2k the few bits that need attention. Thinking about getting a plating kit to redo the odd fastener that's not gold anymore. I think I'll get the frame done too, the rest of the bike is really clean and tidy. What did you go for on the frame?

Well the whole bike was a bit of trial and error finding and using new places and people for me...crankcase covers, valve covers, wheels, frame, headlight and fairing support, clip-ons and side stand went to a powder coaters...and he acid dipped the covers...losing my "sight windows" as the rubber seals melted away...Grrhhhh...but he did grit blast all parts and do them up in either silver for valve covers, black for clip-ons, side stand, headlight frame, and white powder coat for wheels and frame which are now great...this is a LOT thicker though than 2 pack...and there was no way I was trusting him to do the crankcase halves as all the bearings, seals, gearbox crank shafts etc etc would have been exposed and needed to stay "true"...thus these were soda balsted clean...carefully masked, and painted and lacquered by the same guy who did the bodywork and I trust.....To give you an idea...the powder coating all in was 130 GBP for all those parts...the 2 pack and lacquer and clean to just the crankcase halves by the painter was the same amount...but theres quality and theres quantity..........No leaks at all from the crankcase....

Thanks Steve. I'd do my own engine bits in 2k if i need to But the frame won't go in my blast cab so I'll farm that out to Redditch Powder Coating. They'll do a frame for about £110 I think.
I've just got all my bearings now, so onward with the 851 motor!

Cheers CNC...the dropping of the Fairing was always the way to go...although the hard way as it meant the engine and wiring had to be presentable...so hardly the easy route...but also to show off the black and silver engine against the white trellis frame was more the point...Oh by the way....whats this extra set of Bike references lurking in your post....D......B.......6+1...something to cough up to?????????? Wink

I also like height of the mufflers... way better than original ones. This semi high position is very 900SS final edition or 851 racing... neat!

Whats next some folk are asking? Well maybe time for the Db2 full overhaul...whilst shes had a spring clean and semi resto...I really need to pull the frame and swingarm off and get them stripped and re-powder-coated back to factory fresh...as thats all really I have left on the list...bearings, wheels, suspension brakes and engine are all fettled and fresh...so just the frame and swingarm left really...been languishing on my "to do" list whilst I've still been enjoying the occassional ride on her...but have suitable enough companions now to finallt pull her off the road...

Meanwhile....Final Final pup up date....freshly polished Footpegs and Hangers were collected today,,,,so nicely reassembled at home now with fresh footpeg rubbers, fresh SS fixing bolts....freshly polished SS pins, springs and new circlips fitted...just to Bob them onto the bike when dry daylight breaks....

Hello Brian...where you bin? Other than making out with identical twins in your man cave...the ZXR's I mean before wifey gets the wrong drift.

Ducati 900SS is still road registered...and been insured for last 2 years..being an "oldie" or at least over 15 years old (23 to be precise) having it on my policy brings the overall price down as it maintains at least a 50:50 ratio of Classics to old....so bike staying as a 900SS....it is what it is...as you say though...a lot of it is better than a Superlight...although snobby Duc Enthusiasts may not agree as its not "original" but I didnt get into it for that...

New Db2 post for further resto? May just tag it onto old one...I'd forgotten that there was 2 threads going on this Resto...and split it midway

Well there was a dry spell today so the shiney footpegs and hangers are now fitted.............
