I want to have my SB6 serviced, can anyone recommend a dealer / individual who knows these bikes well? I live oop north in Darlington, County Durham but I'm prepared to travel to have it done properly.
I intend to service it myself after that, but want a thorough job done first.
Thanks for any advice

Andrew, if you intend to service it yourself thereafter, save your self a small fortune and service it yourself first time around
There is no better way of "learning" your bike than getting down and dirty with it. If you get stuck....well that's why your here (no not to be laughed at.....well maybe sometimes ). There's always someone on here that can help you out
If you really insist on getting a dealer to do it, then i can only tell you which ones NOT to use but there are many out there which haven't been tried yet _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Thanks for the advice. I guess by the time I'd travelled anywhere I could have sorted it myself, even though it'll take me twice as long, it would still be quicker.
And as you say, it's the best way of learning about the bike!
Cheers

A simple service isn't difficult unless it's the valve clearances, but that's more complcated.
Give the carbs a clean as well _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Thats what I love about these forums
All for one and one for all.
OSS also have loads of info. I know a few of you are on ther also.
On the side he is a dumb ass question, are the SB6 vales shim adjusterble od screw adjustable?
Mine has 10 K on it and prob never done valve clearance. so when I drop the motor I would like to be prepared.
Spose I should buy a GSXR 1100 Ws hanes manual. _________________ Si...

Shims under buckets I'm afraid....not screw adjustable like the early oil cooled.
To adjust you change the shim _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

To modern me thinks ... a GS1000 or slabby gixxer 750 more like. Always room for another 1st edition something. _________________ Pomps

Much prefer the slingshot L, M models and the 1100 engine in the 750 bike was my weapon of choice (pre SB6) in fact I built a string of them _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Yeah give it a go yourself andrew. There's not too much to screw up if you've got basic mechanical knowhow. And there's a wealth of info here if need be. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |
