I've noticed that the YB series bikes can have several headlight setups.

The YB4 has small (aprilia) twin headlights behind a perspex sheet.

The YB7 has larger twin headlights with no cover.

I've also seen pictures of a YB6 with a single rectanguler (ish) headlight, but most have twin headlights the same as the YB4. Maybe it was a custom job by the owner?

Does anyone know if the headlight setup changed during the production time of the YB6, or were they different for supply to various countries regulations?

I remembered a post on here regarding larger twin headlights and the reason for fitting but I can't find the thread.

If I had a Bimota bible I'd see if any info is in there. Also, the enthusiasts website is down.

Enthusiasts website has been down since last year since fees were not paid I presume as Glen has cancelled it now

Oh and Hi laminator, welcome back for this week. The Bible doesn'y always go into such detail, but as you say markets differed with differing rules at a time, hence likes of DB2 in EU had a separate sidelight unit atop the main headlight, but UK had it built into the main light, after that I suppose its down to whatever was available I suppose

I just think 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 has a good ring to it. Laughing

Switzerland enforced single headlights for a lot of bikes, I'm sure the one you've seen is Swiss.

Honda also had to change all the RC30s- I was at Honda Switzerland once and they still had around 30 standard top fairings hanging up in the workshop- must be worth a packet now?

and I noticed too that later YBs had different lights- the YB8 used a standard Yamaha FZR1000 headlight. (I think)

I always thought that the YB4 and 6 were the same, changes might have crept in for the exup though ? ?

all the best
Ian

Whilst Bimota Enthusiasts library of pictures has gone, I use this site for specs and pictures

http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/bimota/bimota_db2.htm

Has pretty much all the bikes you could ever want to find

hi Andy
here's a vid on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0bgVYijEkg&feature=related

at 36 seconds a fantastic photo, wonder where it is? loads of YBs and quite a few with single headlight conversions, looks like an extra part dropped in to fill the original oval shape but must be cut inside to fit the square light, what a shame!

Cheers for all the replies and info.

I guess the fairing could be converted to the twin headlight version if required or preferred Wink

My YB8EI uses the 1987-1988 (Glass) FZR1000 Genesis headlamps.
I found there was 4 different FZR1000 headlight arrangements in my research sorting my broken one.

Genesis = 2 round flat glass
Exup = 2 round odd glass to match the fairing
RU = single trapaziodal with 2 bulbs
Foxeye - 2 ... um foxeyes

Not sure about the foxeye's but the others use a standard 4 bolt mounting pattern and similar lamps are used on the 600's. Steer clear of the 400 lamps they take Yamaha only bulbs that cost a lot and aren't much good to see by.
