It is interesting that the anti French feeling in the USA is born out them not following into the illfated Afganistan invasion and the second Irqi war ... that was in itself illegal. Ironic when you consider the US got it's pants (underwear) pulled down by a handful of ragtops who have cost the US billions |
Actually, that anti-French sentiments were long before Afgahnistan. I recall in the 80's not many people cared for the French. I think it was because the Americans didn't like the competition for being known as pompus asses. I will openly admit, we Americans sure like to have an exaggerated opinion of ourselves.

Point taken re Egypt, and I may have been concentrating on more recent history. Although it is now widely believed that whilst the conquering Egyptians took over adjoining countries and their people, recent discoveries show that the "slaves" were paid, gained promotions, had their own homes, were provided with medical assistance, rose to highly vaulted levels within the ranks and generally treated with certain elements of respect. Lesson in semantics really though, as mstly learnt from squiggles written in stone consisting of birds, lizards and triangles, so down to interpretation really
I wont be going near the "elevated opinon of Americans , save to say I tend to miss the last 5 minutes of most American films whilst they all go WoopHa and jump for joy, but heck at least theres a sense of National Pride that is recognised and promoted, we could do with a sense of that over here |
