Good news Brian.

Sorry I was absent for a while. Too occupied with other stuff.
Anyway: great to see that you ended up with a good running db4. Still I think the wiring harness modification did the trick even if it's not really measurable... Sometimes it's just a combination of things.
I think you'll be out of trouble for quite a while now, my db4 didn't have a single misfire ever since.
Started to work on the db4 to get it track ready for the next season, first track outing is in the first week of April.
Fitted a steering damper finally (140mm travel frame-fork mounted). Because of the 2 crashes in the past the steering lock limiters were a bit pushed in on both sides. Now I have larger ones (longer and thicker) that limit the steering range so the seething damper doesn't run out out travel.
Didn't want to pull them out with hammer puller (have the stuff) because I'm afraid that might damage the frame even more or maybe pull out the m6 thread inserts....
Replacing chain and sprockets, tires, front fork legs (will use the brand new spare items), Ohlins shock has been rebuilt and some engine tune-up like spark plugs, oil/filter, clean and sync carbs and checking valve play (should not have altered much after 1 season after full engine rebuild). So there's enough to do. Also will have to study and do exams for my job along the way.......
So no time for boredom _________________ Track riding on a Bimota: FUN! |

Still plenty for me to do Stu. In the shed alone I have to finish the long term track bike project, contemplate rebuilding the '49 BSA and a heap of little jobs want doing to the sb6. No 1 priority is getting the VTX1800 ready for my Phillip Island / Tasmania trip in less than 3 weeks. Needs a service, brake pads, brake fluid, tyres etc.
And I haven't even touched on my list of stuff 1/2 done around the house _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Thanks deebee. Hopefully I can put this thread to bed
I hope things go well with your db4 and the track day is a blast. I'm hoping to do a track day on my db4 after my trip away. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

I had my best mate over for the weekend and we took both Bims out for a ride. The db4 hasn't missed a beat since my last effort so here's hoping.
The db4 is a joy to ride... it was nice to have both Bimota's out for a ride together.

Was that the guy with Ducati in your garage that I met at the Isle of Man?
Taking 2 Bimotas out for the day is the best way to ride them.....Gives you double the pleasure playing swapsie...and they seem to like being out in company (like minded)......Not to mention the "draw" that they get from passers by....seeing 2 Bimotas at the same time...
I've had similar experiences with Vort...taking out both Tri-color DB4's at the same time....which caused some stares at traffic lights...and then of course taking out 2 No. Vdues at the same time...that certainly caused some double takes from folk.... |

That's cool. Lucky friend. It's nice to have the back-up when you're worried about reliability. Soon the DB4 will be going on long solo trips. |

Yeah, don't know what I would have done if one of them had broken down Bud, only 2 seats between them
Still would have much preferred to be where you were on the weekend _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Hmm... Need to think about that one a bit Stu.... _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Here's my thoughts...
The sb6 is very powerful, handles very well, looks superb and has a very low seat height (perfect for vertically challenged persons like myself)
The db4 has nice power delivery but runs out of puff, it is very light but feels even lighter than it actually is and that Ducati note is intoxicating to me.
IF I had it choose only one out of the two, it would most probably be the sb6, purely for these reasons -
The styling of the frame and bodywork is pure art to me. The flowing lines of the two piece bodywork is timeless and will look 'modern' for an eternity. The self supporting seat unit is brilliant and with the bodywork off, the lack of an ugly rear subframe makes it's naked form look beautiful. The milled billet aluminium components like the suspension linkage etc are beautiful. The undertail exhaust looks perfect on this bike. The bike looks and feels small which is perfect for me.
The db4 seems so much more conventional compared to the sb6... The side mounted exhaust, clunky bodywork, and rear subframe. The one piece tank, seat unit is very nice but the rest of the bodywork is average in my opinion.
Even though the sb6 was one of the highest produced Bimotas (maybe the highest produced? Not sure about yb's and late model bims?), it has that rare and exotic look and feel to me. The db4 on the other hand IS reasonably rare with its fairly low production numbers which also makes it special to me. The fact that the company was on the brink of bankruptcy when producing the db4 is apparent I think with the more conventional styling and components.
It's just lucky for me that I don't have to choose between the sb6 and the db4 as I love them both for different reasons and love riding both of them very much.
