|
|
I know that all of us have chosen motorcycles as one of our hobbies to enjoy and some of us have a tendency to view wrenching/repairing/modifying our bikes as a sub-set of this hobby, but what other hobbies do you enjoy?
My other two main hobbies have been on that back burner for several years due to the expense and from being burned out with the other. These two hobbies are fireams, which has become expensive for the quantity I like to shoot when goign target shooting, and guitars/basses, which I got burned out on after being in a local area band and doing 120 shows in two years and basically being every facet of the administrative part of the band (manager/publicist/webmaster/promoter/marketing-agent/designer).
Over the years, I've messed around with writing, having written several articles for the Ducati club quarterly magazine and had some guitar-related stuff published in the late 90's (well, I actually had the main author shared the byline with me). I even wrote a silly children's book that I had 50 copies printed for family and friends.
Within the last few weeks, I have taken up painting and bought a camera to try some photography. I've been doing quite a bit of painting the last 3 weeks and have been casually thinking of taking some lessons to get better at it.
So, what other hobbies do you enjoy? _________________ Look for my books...

Spent 12 years as a ships diver. Not done any since taking SWMBO diving in Cuba about 3 years ago. I find water too wet these days. _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Oh, you're asking for it, aren't you?
For the most part, I haven't done any painting since grade-school, if you can even call that painting. My first two paintings were not very good, but this is the third one I did for my mother....
This is the sixth painting. I took a picture of my buddy's Mooney M20J airplane on the ground and I threw it in the air by not painting the landing gear LOL....
I did this one last night (my seventh) while drinking and watching old TV reruns on the Internet...
If these aren't bad enough, I have a few that are worse.
I have been thinking about taking some lessons and sent an email to an instructor a few minutes ago.
I haven't really taken many photographs, yet. I spent a couple of hours playing with the new camera, but haven't taken any pictures that I think are worth a damn. It's not really a terrific camera, either, but it is MUCH better than the one that I used to have. _________________ Look for my books...

Hello Desmo,
you lucky man! I had a collection of various firearms and still shoot .22 occasionally, but hanguns were banned over here about fourteen years ago (the number of handgun killings quadrupled over the five years after the ban and are still twice what they were, but that's politics). One of my favourites was an old .303 MkV1 Lee-Enfield which had been owned by one of the Australian national squad in the 'twenties; the bolt action was like butter. Unfortunately, I sold it when I was made redundant about five years ago and the bikes have taken over since. Good Shooting!
Cheers, MikeJ
P.S. What's the top rifle-is it a Gew. 98? |

Now that I've seen your firearm collection, I think your paintings are pure genius works of art and should be hung in Museums around the World.
Need a tutor? Don't be silly, you should be giving the lessons yourself.. (please don't shoot me)
When I get a moment I'll upload some of my works of art for your critical appraisal.
I only have a Webley Vulcan .22 air rifle and a Bow and arrow set (with the rubber suckers removed!) so fire ahead with the criticisms whenever I upload |

LMAO....too funny! But.....that is only a fraction of the collection. Personally, I'm a Colt fan and the wife is a S&W fan, so we get to bicker back and forth like Oily does with DB owners. We just have to be severely polite in our conversations. For our first anniversary, I gave her a S&W 44 magnum and she gave me a S&W 617 22 revolver. For our second anniversary, we traded 357 magnum revolvers (I got a Colt and she got a S&W). For the third anniversay, we exchanged cards because the guns as anniversary gifts was getting expensive.
This is an old photo, but these are my Colts, minus a few new additions...
I would like to get better with my painting, as I find it pretty cool to do, right now. I've spent enough time on my paintings that my drinking has actually decreased, so I've switched to liquor!
Edit.....Some of you should be able to appreciate the origin of manufacture of these sweet toys I have.....

Desmo that’s a nice collection of firearms…you have
Just be happy that you not live in the Netherlands with this hobby….
The rules here are very strict about firearms.
Such a collection is only possible if you have a gun shop. _________________ vince

My wife likes purple, so when she saw a picture of the beach at dawn/dusk with a LOT of her favorite color, I decided to paint it...
