Yes and yes Wink

Requires a small amount of welding and fabrication.
In fact, I shall be doing it again in the near future Wink

Adds nothing (or very little) to performance though.

Really?

If that's the case why were race pipes produced and why aren't race pipes baffled like the road pipes?

I think turning the road cans into "straight through's" is always going to help the engine breath Wink

The limit to noise is the small bore end caps Wink

If you want LOUD your gonna need bigger holes in the end Wink

Whilst your having some big bore end caps made, I need a couple too Wink

On the six the difference between the race cans and normal road cans is only a couple of hp so I'd say the road cans are as "good". It's true though the louder can sound .... better, they have a lower tone and are different internally to the standard cans.

The race pipe don't have the outer cage the road pipes have and so you can get more wadding into them. I did run these with no wadding before but they were stoooopid loud. I'm not these would be ok for a trackday but they're a lot better for the road than they were. I guess I should get them tested sometime.

bear in mind that you need more than simply an open pipe for a 4stroke to work correctly, no back pressure will mean a very poorly power output

Not quite a bigger pipe will give you less back pressure allowing higher revs and therefore more power.
But a smaller diameter will increase back pressure giving more torque

Hence the Yamaha's EXUP system.
