Hi Guy's
I have just got my first Bimota an x japan SB6 frame no 264 it is pretty mint with only 14,000 ks on it, I have put some new rubber on it and its running pretty strong, have all the normal questions, what the diff between a mark1 and 2? when did the mk2 start, being a low s/n i guess mine is a mk1
I want to show it some love so am planing a oil, fluid change and clean the air filter ect while the fairings off (thanks for posting a video evilchicken) I guess i should drop the motor and check the clearances and replace the plugs? what do you recommend for oil and plugs? Service manuals do they exist?
I also need to replace the speedo cable does anyone know who or what it is as a Bimota without a speedo is going to get me in trouble....
I will need to replace the heat shielding under the seat as its old and not working that well, does anyone have photos of mods to the heat shield that have worked. I want to keep it as stock as possible because it really is in great nick but want to get her to her best to enjoy the fab roads here in kiwi land ps how do i post photos? _________________ Hursty from kiwi land |

welcome to the forum... sure the lads will answer all your questions ... looks like your avatar is showing a mk2 due to the engine mount in the beam frame rather then just underneath as in a mk1. Other differences include clocks and wheels etc. To post pics you need to use a photo streaming site and copy into the thread.
Well done on purchase and stay busy on the site, lots of info if you dig back through our old threads so well worth a read. _________________ Pomps

Welcome to the forum
Can't have too many proper Bimota's
Very intriguing...as Pomps said, looks like a mk11 frame but that's definitely a mk1 frame number
No worries...we'll soon get to the bottom of it when you post loads of pictures after you've opened a photobucket (free) account. _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Here are some shots of my baby, hope this is how it works.
If not can you let me know what to load.
Is having a proper Bimota just having a 6 or is it important to this colour?

Late frame, late clocks....
Early wheels, early frame number.....
The plot thickens
Nah...a proper Bimota is any with a proper mans engine with plenty of cylinders and built in Japan
The 6 is up there with the best
P.S
Whilst your writing your post, if you copy and past the relevent image code, then this will happen...
I'm intrigued with this
any chance of a close up shot of the frame number? _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Keen for info on the speedo cable? |

Mystery solved.....It's an early mk 11.
Still looks like early wheels which make a difference to your speedo cable
Now need a decent picture of your front wheel/speedo drive _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

no idea what wheels your running, should be Antera's
Anyhoo, that's a mk11 genuine doochatee speedo drive so your looking for a doochatee cable of the right length
bet your nearest doochatee dealer is a million miles away _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Didn't want to mention the non-standard paint scheme.
Thought we'd solve the early number, late frame thing first
It came from Japan so anything could have happened to it over there _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Yep, early mk1 oscom wheels
Somewhere along the line there's been a switcharoo. Speedo drive (mk11) has had an adaptor made by the look of it to fit the oscom wheels. Probably why the speedo don't work.
Get yourself a GSXR 1100 speedo drive and cable. It'll slot straight on with those wheels
P.S
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm afraid that's the slow colour _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Are the early wheels lighter than the anteras ? Can't see how they could be heavier ! |

The cable was working for the first 1000ks in NZ ? maybe we run too quick out here for it?
I might be wrong but this factory color option is obviously rarer than what they sent to mother England....
Its beautiful and its Mine.... _________________ Hursty from kiwi land |
