Just been for a quick blast to check my fuel breather problem was sorted
cap locked down cruising around yellow low fuel lights on and off everything is fine and it seems problem is all sorted, Happy days.
Heading home yellow light goes solid for a short while (a minute or two)and then the old girl just dies and stops like its got no fuel at all.
Open the cap and yes its low but still a couple of liters left give the tank a bit of a slosh around hit the starter and it fires up but still a bit sluggish and head to the nearest gas station put about 15L in and we off again as per normal.
So it could be shit in the tank from sitting around in Japan or is the fuel outlet placed so that the tank won't completely empty?
How long can you guy's ride on the solid yellow at 4-5000 rpm? _________________ Hursty from kiwi land |

If you pull the fuel tap, there is a strainer on it. Any crap in the tank (course) will clog this up and everything else (fine) will obviously end up in the carbs. You can't beat an in line filter _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Flashing light ???
Mine's either on or off and it seems to come on about 30 miles out .... well it used to now it doesn't do anything since the wires dropped off.
I use the trip odometer though 100 miles and you'd better have the petrol station in sight, so watch out for those French motorways _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

The light is on or off depending on gasing it or braking till it gets lower then goes on permanently.
And if I'm on a French motorway I am very very lost _________________ Hursty from kiwi land |

Ye my fule light will start winking at me by 60 miles plus. Depending If Im on the brakes, accellerating, or cranked over.
Comes on solid after 100 to 110 miles.
Most I have run is about 120 miles and then put in 12 + liters or so.
But I do ride like a girl. _________________ Si...

From what i can gather, the fuel senders on bimotas (sb6 & db4 at least) are not very reliable. Both of mine seem to do what ever they like and often are on more than they are off. I've now just disconnected them and rely on the trip meter _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

so how much does an empty-ish tank hold? I'm putting more than £20 in every 2 laps... Tho' the petrol here on th'isle o' man is more expensive than malt whisky... and, of course, there's no speed limit _________________ C'est moi! |

my fuel light works always so I do 150 kilometers and then fueling on highway ( on french highway there is before each petrol station the kilometers for the next one this help a lot and of course if I've made around 130 kilometers when I see one and the next one is 50 kilometers after I fuel at the first ) and have also 1 liter of petrol with me just in case (at 70 mph 5 gear could do around 20 kilometers with).
Have already had no more fuel at all at 176 kilometers on highway but riding fast.
BTW when you come in France by the shuttle and you take the highway at Calais to Paris, if you don't fueling at Calais just after the shuttle you should know you have 52 kilometers ( 32 miles)on the highway without petrol station and you must know there're often mobile radars on this part cause some naughty britishs don't respect the speed limit |

I guess about 19L without looking it up. Gas in NZ is about £1.08 litre so not too bad I know from my old 1987 Gsxr1100 days that if you rev them they suck the juice that's why they go so quick.
But I've got a busted Speedo cable so I don't have a speed limit either?
I think your in the only other place with roads as good as ours?
Any other contenders out there? _________________ Hursty from kiwi land |

BTW never put more than 15 liters on the tank of my SB6 so 19 liters seem a little optimist |

Acording to the MCN blurb the SB6 has a 19.5 L tank
With 140 mile range.
Avereage fuel consumtion is 35 MPG
That generally sounds about right from what I get on a run.
But I still dont know how far the reserve will last. _________________ Si...

I guess the lower the mpg the more your having.
I could take the mirrors off and then I wouldn't know if I was being chased or not.

...Yes I do
Been fun watching all the guesstimates
According to Bimota the fuel tank capacity is...wait for it......
17L including reserve....
reserve being 4 L
Wouldn't rely on that 4L....the fuel light isn't reliable if indeed it works _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)
