Can anyone help out with tyres please. I am trying to replace the front and rear, currently old Pirelli MP7s sized 130/60 16 and 160/60 16
No one seems to produce these sizes any more. I am not fussy or brand concious, just want something that fits or advice as to an alternative.
The wheels are the original Campagnolo's and I dont want to change them. |

There's a rear on Ebay for stupid money.
Item 330309803736
How much clearance do you have between the tyre and the mudguard? The '98 Hornet uses a 130/70/16 front and thats readily available.
Michelin still list the A 59 X front and M59 X rear for your bike.
Cheers,

My mate runs his own tyre service and will know how to get answers for you and wont rip you off! His name is Simon Bull ( Bully) and let him know you got his number from me ( Pompey ). He'll look after you, no worries. _________________ Pomps

Thanks very much for the replies. The clearance on the front tyre/mudguard is a " safe " 30mm, so that might be an option. I spoke to Michelin this morning and they said that they did not list a rear tyre for that size. I will try again tomorow.
In the meantime I have just spoken to a really helpful 1979 SB3 owner who has pointed out that the MP7s that I have are a tubeless radial fitment. My wheels should have tubed tyres. Does anyone know what the original tyres were please ? |

The mystery is solved. Pompeys mate could not have been more helpful or knowledgeable.Michelin supplied the tyres as OE from 1982 and they were 120/80 16 and a 150/80 16 ( A/48 and M/48 ) It looks like the previous owner of my bike decided to change the sizes and I copied his choice when I replaced the rear. Michelin HQ have confirmed this but say that tyre range is discontinued. Not to worry as I now have a choice of modern rubber and wont even have to be tempted to pay £250 for an old Pirelli off Ebay.. Thanks again gents. |
