Lucky enough to have had both, Sb6r wins hands down, it turned in quicker felt it was faster in turns I was familar with on both machines. Just my point , but both seriously. Good bikes.

...and just to balance the previous comment (which I agree with)

The SB6 is a primitive, badly designed and badly built, rattley race bike while the 6R is better built, more powerful, better handling usable every day, and a decent alternative to a Jap bike Wink

No they don't the 6R makes more power due to its air box design, and its bodywork is more aerodynamic

Since I have been dealing with Bimotas since 1978 I think that I know a thing or two about them. Bodywork has NOTHING to do with the chassi AND they have the same engine and they have the sam specification according to the factory.... Smile

The ONLY difference is that the SB6R has a 10 mm longer swing arm!

Wrong again...
The front half of the frame is different to accommodate the ram air intake and battery tray.
All the bracing around the head stock is totally different amongst other things and they are defiantly NOT interchangeable.......
ask me how I know Wink

P.S. Don't need to check with the factory, I can check with the contents of my garage.
do you really believe everything the factory says?

were not talking about factory claims were talking from our experience ... well more Oily's experience. The 6R frame isn't braced around the headstock. Of course Bimota changed the wheels which slowed all their bikes down a bit but we try not to talk about it.
The 6R had ram air, which is usually worth something to most manufacturers especially when the 6 one is generally thought to be restrictive.
The 6R's swingarm isn't just longer though is it ?

And the 6R makes more power period, due to the larger airbox, which is still too small, and which proves the SB6 airbox was a huge mistake.

Even the pukka Dynojet kit came with a drill to knock a load of holes in it.

Factory claims or not, my Dyno tells the story every time. SB6 lucky to break 130bhp, SB6R usually 135bhp, mine with 30% bigger carbon airbox 143bhp.

Engines do vary within a batch of engines. If you take 15 engines of the same batch the power will vary in the batch. And every now and then you get a blueprinted engine from the factory; when every tolerance match up you can get up to 10-15 % over the specification. Period! Smile

I think we are (mostly) well aware of that fact, particularly sb6rdaz Wink
But as you were not talking about individual, blueprinted engines but ex-factory engines, I fail to see how that makes the power of the SB6 and SB6R the same?
I'm presuming, of course that you ride both SB6 and SB6r and not just reading the factory propaganda?

As an aside, I'm sure it's possible to extract huge amounts of power from these engines which the factory never bothered to do Wink

Correct, but I am not refering to one bike of each model, I'm looking at a number of each, and the GSXR1100 engines are VERY consistent. I have run 5 SB6R's on my current Dyno, and all made within 2bhp when tuned and set correctly with aftermarket pipes. PERIOD. The relatively low state of tune of the stock 1100 motor means it is less sensitive so less variation occurs. But back to back on the 6R with stock airbox to larger item released more power, proving the airbox is still restricting the engine, and the SB6 airbox is tiny in comparison, so even more restrictive. PERIOD AGAIN.

And you certainly do get variations of 10-15% on 130bhp+ engines, the tolerances they are built to are far better than that, 5% absolute maximum.

A stock SB6 you'd expect 126bhp. Given the delivery and torque thats fine.
Bimota probably took the Suzuki figures and went from there, and the Suzuki figures are optimistic.
