...The proper way
are you going to use the center locking bolt too?
...it's actually redundant now and will save weight too _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

No not going to use.
My opinion... the centre bolt is a bad way for securing the nut.
It’s always possible that the centre bolt will run loose.. and if that happens you lose your last line of defence.. _________________ vince

This is what I did with the front sprocket cover.
From my humble opinion it isn’t strange that the old cover was broken on that part.
Looking from a mechanical perspective, the corner is too sharp.
A sharp corner gives more chance of cracks.
I leave there material in a large radius so that the forces can better run off.
At the down site there was material that had no function so I removed it.
At the inner site I removed also some material (see the arrows)
I did that to gain some access for the front sprocket.
Now I can remove the front sprocket without removing the cover.
And if I am right it’s now possible to change the sprockets without removing or swing forward the engine.
If I am wrong ,please tell me, maybe I am overlooking something.
This summer we will see if the cover will crack again or will crack on a different place.
Time will tell…

There was still some lateral movement on the clutch cylinder when I pulled the clutch lever.
To possibly prevent metal fatigue to the sprocket cover again I installed a bracket. See pic.
Now there is no movement visible.
The bracket is T6 aluminium. _________________ vince

...The Suzuki design team created all those mounting points for a reason then the Bimota design team cut them all off
On the oil cooled, slingshot engine, we used a minimal, billet sprocket cover and that had a minimum of four mounting points.......
wonder if I could get one to fit on the water cooled engine? _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Mine too, but if it was.. a really bad design.. than there were more complains about it on this forum. _________________ vince

Unfortunately No
It's for the earlier oil cooled engine but I'm assuming a similar design could be made for the water cooled engine. Four mounting points is definitely the way forward
I may have a look into a design this afternoon _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Worst problem I've encountered is a weeping oil seal
Perhaps not such an issue _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Maybe you have to be gentle when you are shifting gears…
If I’m not gentle to my wife she is also weeping … _________________ vince

It's not a Honda no point in being gentle you might miss a gear
Stomp on it and crack the throttle wide open I say _________________ Hursty from kiwi land |
