...The marvel that is the SB6 was designed on a fag packet and signed off for production by a primate
Who in their right mind designed a sheet of rubber into a 17K bike?...
...to be fair, I don't think the original design had this gym mat, it was added as a solution to a problem at a later date. This makes it worse and puts it into the category of factory bodge.
How can such an iconic piece of motorcycling history have so many bodges??
I could fill a book with all the design faux pas on the sb6
...Rant over...I'll get my coat _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Now...The thing is... Do I leave the gym mat in place as the bike is fairly complete and original, or throw it away before it cooks everything?
...Maybe best to keep it until I decide I'm going to keep the bloody thing then rip it off and throw it away...

so long as it doesn't explode- I do like a bit of originality.
If it is very likely to explode, 'carefully' take off the 'heat shield' and keep it in a climate controlled box for the day when you will have the only 'original' SB6 left on the planet.

...It's the only one I've ever seen that hasn't been damaged or modified in some shape or form si I was thinking more...Keep it on (for now until i decide if I'm selling or keeping) or take it off and keep it for future investment (as crankies suggestion ) _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Mine is told that it is always safe to use a rubber…
Perhaps the designers thought it to. _________________ vince

No, they don't cover the airbox si
They go underneath the air box.
They tend to overheat the alternator and fry the coupling due to lack of air circulation.

Well...after sleeping on it, I think your all right....
I'm going to try and get it off in one piece and safely store it away until us SB6 owners decide they are back in fashion _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Leave it ? Remove it ? Or put some holes in it ?
My thinking is it keeps hot air away from the airbox (HP)

Probably right as they also fitted, as an afterthought, the air tube from the front of the fairing to the airbox.
trouble is......it keeps hot air away from the air box and concentrates it where your trying to disperse it from ....the engine.
In the UK we don't worry too much about hot air in your airbox( ) more about rain in your electrics
I think it will rob the bike of a couple of top end hp if I remove it but I for one will probably never see those particular horses anyway _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)
