This is the stuff you need for the seat, back pad and strip that goes round the back of the tank cover
http://www.ebay.de/itm/10mm-POLSTER-ducati-yamaha-suzuki-honda-bimota-kawasaki-/400127722996?pt=Motorrad_Kraftradteile&hash=item5d297885f4

Just cut it to shape and glue on, certainly a lot cheaper than LoudBikeSteve 27 year old stuff, sure theres similar suppliers in the US

Even though not much padding, the seat is wide and flat enough to almost be deemed comfy and for once I wish I was a bot shorter and maybe your height is just about perfect.

I'll measure up the rear light unit, but pretty sure Armin of DRT Schneider still has rear light units for the Db1, contact me if you cant find his site.

He also still has the original DB1 Bimota mini 4mm allen key that bobs onto your key ring that will fit the 4mm hex bolts that hold the rear seat hump bump stop in place, theres a picture of one in my Db1 post

About 3/4's of the way down this page
http://www.bimotaforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=1814&start=180

Theres a plastic bag with 3 of them inside Laughing

Another on here wanted one to fit the 2 stroke oil filler cap on a Bimota V-due as it does the trick...

Oh just a quick note on whether you paint the front and back part of the seat with no foam on it, may be difficult to try out in practice, without seat on the bike etc etc, and isn't really geared to height, but most folk that have sat on my DB1 have been fine, right up until the point they put both feet on the pegs and "ones" body tends to get squished into the space between the tank and seat hump, and marginal as that foam is, I sure prefer it to hard fibreglass, for rear and front nether regions...so give it some consideration.

Besides the cheap rubber foam is a far easier option than spraying and at least more "authentic"

Best of luck and enjoyed the photo album. Were you supposed to include naked shots of some girl in one of the other albums you gave acces to??? Laughing Brightened up my day for sure....

Good points, 2bims, thanks! I ordered one of those 4 mm keys from DTR Schneider a couple weeks ago. They're so trick.

Naked who where?

You won't be dissapointed when you receive it, other than be amazed how teeny tiny it is,,,,just dont do like I did and put it on a black marble worktop, took me weeks to find where I'd put it, now attached to a sodding great key ring, but does what it says on the tin...

So did you see the post previously on the keys and you've been "lurking" on here for a while you lurker you??? Laughing

Naked lady...soz...naked men all bending over I meant to write.... Shocked Wink

You seem to have the enthusiasm for your mammoth task and I'd be intrigued how the vertical cylinder header pipe makes it way past its vertical shock......Best of luck...Also maybe the rear light is same as 1991-1997 Ducati 600/750/900SS, I have a spare lying around off one of my Ducs so I'll do a compare and contrast for you, as it would be a cheap and genuine option...

Lurker? LOL. Nah, just watch different eBays. Found those body bolts and he offered the key.

I'm going to run the shock offset to the right. Should work out. LoudBike just told me he's out of the rockers so I'll need to figure something out. Where's my magic wand...

Heard a rumor it's the 851/888 taillight but not sure.

Cheers!

I have a tubular rear suspension rocker arm - think its from an early SB model - can give you the measurements if you want - you may be able to make it fit?

Thanks, GeeKay. I'm interested even if it's a starting point. Does it look at all like this?

That looks like a possible starting point. The swingarm would have more leverage on the shock but it's similar to the DB1's. How wide is it? Thanks for mentioning this.

Best,
Adam

it measures approx 225mm but there is plenty of scope to shorten it. I was going to use it on my Tesi project until a very nice chap in Germany gave me an aluminium one.

Trimming it down to 165 might be a big ask but anything's possible. Checking out SB6 linkage. Might not work but going to try. And the search continues.

Tesi project?

Love it. Will read it all with my next morning coffee. The words "Tesi" and "project" in the same sentence makes my head spin.

Last night I finished all the easy stuff: https://picasaweb.google.com/106224032438619042529/BimotaDB1R

Best,

wow Adam
this looks like it's going to be very funky.
Are you putting full DB1 bodywork on it or leaving it a bit naked?

It's a dilemma. I've been bending ears about it for months. My friend's eyes glaze over like a donut in a microwave. The girlfriend is going to stab me if I draw another DB1 in the air.

The ally tank I have isn't pretty but I was going to run it until I made a new one that's, in theory, better looking. Not perfectly shaped & polished but this one is meant to be under fiberglass. And make a seat. Figure something out with aluminum. Something Italian looking?

This is my dream bike & my rider. If I have sport bike with a fairing I go too fast in the opinion of many. After the helicopter incident I sold my superbike & have tried to stay in the wind as much as possible = no more fairings for awhile.

I'd rather not run a belly pan in general. They burn up or need holes and I want to run an exhaust that allows full view of the floating rear wheel. Might to go with a Quat D, hideous square udder.

Then I realized that what I've always wanted is to have is that pearl white tank in my chest. And I love the tail on the DB1 (YB4, YB6, YB7, YB8). So why not just use the main body piece? It's how the current tank is secured too.

It's never going to be a complete DB1R and if I did do a complete replica I'd ride it scared & would end up selling it in under a year. And I can always get the fiberglass, if AirTech still exists, in the future. Why not enjoy it as it is - a fun bitsa.

Trim the fiberglass to look natural, the front being the least predictable. Paint it pearl white, no decals? Red stripes? Green stripe? Not sure yet.

I'm open to thoughts and/or laughter with finger pointing.
