Anybody removed the entire mirror assembly to repaint/fix cracked nose fairing? Lever out the mirror which is on a ball joint? Don't want to break to find out.

If you've got the "droopy" Cagiva Mito/Ducati 748/916/998 mirrors, (same as on Db2/DB4/YB11/Vdue etc you'll first have to take the screw out of the ball clamp first...theres a tiny hole underside on the mirror that will allow access to a precision screwdriver with a phillips Cross head on it...this Clamps the ball and allows tight or loose mirror lens adjustment....no other screwdriver will fit. Undo all the way and you'll hear the screw come loose. Then gently insert a pallat knife or butter knife under the lens...dont worry about the glass as its glued to a plastic backing plate that is attached to the ball...this allows the glass to be slowly prised out of its plastic swivel connection. Then you can loosely screw the bolt back in and spray away the mirror bodies with the lens free.....attack it from 2 opposite sides at once if this helps to gently prise it away from the ball connector....Hope this helps

If you just want to remove the mirror and body in its entirety then take the central screw out inside the nose fairing and gently rock from front to back holding the mirror body. It will pull out of one of the spring connectors first, then the other, be brave but gentle, when rocking do so with a pulling away motion to take pressure off the nose fairing it was bolted to

thanks…i guess i do need to remove the mirror first so that i can get to that bolt that is holding the mirror body to the fairing…then wiggle time….thanks again.

?? Take the mirror body off complete with lens fitted, as the tiny screw holding the ball is difficult to locate

I don't think I can get it off without taking the mirror off first….there appears to be in the center a bolt that must be holding the mirror body in the center as I pretty sure I am seeing threads…see photo (can't figure out how to imbed into this email, so here's a link…sorry.

Yeh...thats the allen headed bolt you first need to take out...standard fitment on bimotas...one central bolt and 2 brass pins into lugs on back of fairing...think its an 8mm or 6mm hex key...take it all the way out and then do the wiggle with the mirror trying to keep the plastic fairing stable as i see it has a longitundinal crack anyhow...easily done if the mirrors are knocked at any time as the fairing takes the punishment...can also happen if the mirror is overtightened and the mirror is not sitting properly.

This centre bolt screws into a brass insert inside the mirror body

I take a small flat blade screwdriver and pry back one of the spring clip sides and release a bit of the pressure on the stud. That along with some WD-40 will reduce the sudden POP and prevent any accidental abuse on the nose fairing.

They are a great system for holding the mirror...but with absolutely no give if you knock them...and brutal to remove...over engineered and easy to crack your plastics....I like my Db2 mirrors...same shape and everything...but instead of 2 pins and one bolt..they have just 2 bolts in place of the pins....works just as well at holding them without the drama of removal....have seen some mirrors, and have a pair, where someone has turned down the brass pins into threaded studs to take nuts...and then removed the offending spring clips.....Just another example of Bimota fixing something that didnt need fixing..."progression" Yeah...right.... Shocked

SB6 has exactly the same mirrors as the DB4

They're the same as the Ducati.
Personally my mirrors are fine, I put some soft rubber on the mating surface so it dosen't mark the fairing.

When the mirrors were painted it looks like they held the mirrors by the wires and sprayed, they didn't take the mirror out just masked it, badly.
