I started with winter cleaning of my DB5… took the tank off to see if air filter needs cleaning, but founded air box full of dirt and fine sand. Since I don’t drive in rain and macadam clearly filter is not doing very good job. I need to replace original with some aftermarket… Ideal solution would be to buy just foam and then cut it on right measurement. Do anyone have soma idea for where to buy such material? I looked at Pipercross, but they sell only “final” products, not material. I need 230x110x20mm foam.

I've used this exact product for both of my Bimotas. Very good quality.

What Brian says.
I use it also and have no complaints.

Fited RamAir filter... it is a little thiner than original, but fits fine. I cut a little larger foam for better sealing to the airbox wall.

I just received the 2 filter set from WMR. When I get the chance to install it I will post a review!
It looks really good, and has a favorable review elsewhere, so we shall see!

Spike, is there some dyno test for that. I'm curious because it uses airbox in different way...

A fellow o the Ducati.ms forum in the Bimota sub forum installed these along with a PC-V and could not get the PC-V to work with the Bimota ecu, so he just rode it as is and felt that it worked fine with the stock ecu, nice colors on the plugs and good f/a ratios. The dyno did not show an increase in hp butt the rider felt it was working better.

Hi Guys...just started getting the Db5R ready for the Spring/Summer...and intention is its going to the TT this year also instead of the Db6R that went last year...

Not been into the airbox before....and after CNC's story I thought it was best to start there.....

Oh Ehhhh.....Was there ever a Paris Dakar DB5R race bike?? a plentiful sand play pit inside there...first time ever I've had to use a Vaccuum cleaner on a motorbike.....

Spike...have you fitted and ran with your new filter top yet? interested to know if you find any difference/improvement? What with cat free pipes and open cans I'm thinking an open top may help a little?

Did either of you, Spike and CNC, oil up the foam before you put it back in...like on good old fashioned 2 stroke enduro bikes or K&N Air filter oil style??

at least removing the tank was a little easier than the norm with quick release couplings fitted as standard to the ascerbis plastic tank...a nice update

Hi Steve,

I see that you have more or less same sand collector... As I examined this a little more, I think the problem is actually around filter not in the foam itself. My thinking is that at high revs, foam bends and lets in unfiltered air (explaining big sand grains). So quick fix would be to ad some al mesh to foam that it strengthens a little. You could get this already done, but you could do this to regular filter:

I think the mesh is a good idea. I'm pretty sure the db4 had mesh and I just put it back in with the ramair filter foam.
