We've got 6 club rounds this year, plus the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed at Eastern Creek plus the New Zealand round at Hampton Downs, plus the Australian Nationals at Lakeside, so I can get plenty of track time. Is that too much???

Hi Brian, I did an ARDC practice day last Friday to check the results of the dyno tune. The dyno tune got rid of the flat spot at 7000 RPM. The torque curve is now pretty flat from 6000 to 10,500 RPM. Awesome power everywhere!
I gave my son a ride when his RS125 broke a pipe. He loved the smoothness and power. How many 16 year olds can say they've ridden a 1000cc Bimota around a track like Eastern Creek?
I'm just finishing off the bike this morning ready to load it up this arvo for the Barry Sheene Festival of Speed that is on this weekend at Eastern Creek.
I need to jack up the rear end to improve the ground clearance as the fairing drags on the ground, and the pipes aren't far behind. I tried shortening the rod ends in the suspension linkage but that didn't do it. I'm now going to adjust it by extending the length of the Ohlins shock.
I did the Factory Pro clutch hub mod to stop the clutch shudder on take off. I found a few nicks on the clutch hub which I smoothed off, so hopefully the combination will allow the bike to get off the line without bucking.
I've been trying to make an oil catch tray as required by the rules. It's nearly impossible due to the lack of ground clearance, the pipes poking through the fairing, and the bottom split fairing.
New slicks in the morning and it's good to go! |

Your son is a very lucky boy indeed.
Are the stewards letting you pass scrutineering without the catch tray? I can see how it will be difficult to make it comply.
All the best for the weekend at Eastern Creek mate. Looking forward to the run down after the weekend.

It's not mine, but the DB1 was in the same garage as me. There was also a YB3 (with the TZ350 motor) a couple of garages down. I should have got a photo with all three. These Bimotas are getting as common as Hondas.
The YB8 was running perfectly in the early races, but unfortuneately, I blew it up. In the Fastest 40 Feature race (with Cam Donald and Robbie Phillis - blatant name drop which makes me sound better than I am ), I finished 16th but the bike overheated when I got back to the pits.
After topping up the water, it lasted 2 laps in the next race. It had been running a bit flat so I kept the revs below 9000RPM while I listened for any noises. The motor locked up going into Turn One which is maybe 230 kmh . I ran off the track but kept the bike upright. It left oil on the track and apparently there was a huge cloud of smoke when it blew.
I pulled the fairing off this morning and found No. 2 big end poking out of the crankcases. The motor won't turn so I don't know what caused it, but I think it's serious .
Anyone got a FZR1000 motor for sale near Sydney??? |

Sounds like you had a great time Bud...and nice shots...shame about the motor...but Hey Ho...gives a tale to tell...You'll probably be best finding a complete running FZR1000...at least that way you'll be able to try out the engine also......rip the motor out and ebay the rest of the parts..you'll probably end up with a free engine that way......
Real cutesy awesome looking DB1.....what motor have they shoe-horned into it? As evidently theres a water pump cut out in the bodywork and rad....looks like theres only a frame and bodywork left from the original bike as its got mag marvic 17 inchers on it...ally swingarm, changed brakes, forks...etc etc etc etc .... |

Here a photo of me on the go yesterday. You can see where I'm wearing through the bottom of the fairing.
That DB1 used to be a serious race bike in the Australian Superbike Championships, so was built to a high spec. I know the guy who used to race it, so I'll try to find out more about it.
I'm looking around for motors/bikes at the moment. As you say 2bims, it may pay to get a complete FZR/YZF and sell off the spare bits. |

Not a Bimota, but here's the other bike I raced. It's a 1990 Yamaha TZ250 and it's so nice to race.

Cheers Bud...I'd be interested in knowing the spec of that Db1....nice piece of Kit for sure...and great to see you using the Bimota for what they were designed and built for........Far too many people that came to the Show this weekend thought that our bikes were mere Museum pieces....seeing that some were 30plus years old......and although they are not all taken on the track...they are all road registered, insured and used on the road...You only live once we had to say.......... |
