What are the main differences, apart from frame bungs, between mark 1 and 2 on the sb6.
Any preferences ?

Hello Duncan
the first SB6s had 'raspberry ripple' red and white bodywork and had straight spoked black wheels. The second group had dark gray bodywork and silver Antera wheels which are notoriously heavy. I believe the later bikes also had differences in the fairing around the headlights. The later bikes also had reinforced seat sections on the bodywork and strengthened exhaust pipes. They're all fast and not terrifically comfortable. Apparently the SB6 R is more comfy but I've not tried one. Oh, and the engine has access problems, like the oil filler being directly behind the frame spar (and the battery is behind the headlights). They need a fair bit of warming up and if you fit pod filters you can get flat spots.
Cheers, MikeJ |

The easiest way to tell is by the speedo / tacho, the earlier ones have a GSXR unit the later ones have a split unit similar to honda rc30.
There's an air intake low down on mine it's in front of the down pipes and might be to stop the fairing from gettin to hot. The oilcooler pipes run past them and if you take the fairing off you MUST make sure the foam rubber is between the fairing edge and pipe. The fairing can cut the pipe.

Some differences that i know of -
Different top engine mount meaning later models have 2 frame bungs.
Later models have bigger headlights
Different gauges
Early models had adjustable steering head angle (later ones fixed)
Later ones have larger vents in tail section at mufflers
Early ones had a top fairing brace coming out of the steering stem nut
I've seen different colours in early and late ones but very few carbon colour.
Antera wheels on later models _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Some bikes use 3 spoke Machesini wheels. All the later wheels use 320 brembo discs similar to Ducati / Yamaha but they have countersunk bolts
Earlier bikes use a disc with s bigger offset, these discs are harder to find. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |
