Anybody know what the purpose of the resin encased module to the left of the CDI is?

Seems to hook into the pulse generator of the engine (and probably another sensor somewhere - I haven't yet traced it).

Yes, that is the rev limiter.

According to the story I heard, this was added after the first Supermonos broke down in Germany on the Autobahn where you can really ride at top speed for long periods. The Rotax engines didn't stand running wide open for long periods of time, hence the rev limiter.

I run my own supermono with the rev limiter disconnected, but try to always watch the Scitsu Smile

Thanks for the reply - it confirms my own findings. After tracing the wires, I started investigating the components visible on the board. It seemed very likely indeed that it was a limiter.

As it would turn out, it was what was making my bike run extremely poorly. I guess it had developed a fault and was cutting the ignition prematurely.

Either disconnecting the power to the limiter or bypassing it completely fixed the problem. I've now removed it from the bike completely.

Why pay for a rev limiter if you ain't gonna use it ? Very Happy sorry blokes but I'm not aware of how this model is put together. I have a single that runs a YZ80 ignition, redline 20,000 rpm. Capacity 800cc & we have seen 9,500 rpm on dyno. It mechanically falls over at that point. Want a single to run ? Get rid of stuff Wink
