|
|
While repairing my crash damage I had to sand down the scratches on the monocoque. And I discovered that the monocoque is entirely made out of carbon fibre! Even a relatively cheap Bimota like the db4 has carbon fibre body parts!
Why Bimota didn't write that in the db4 prospect I don't know. It could've been a selling point. It has the about the same amount of carbon fibre as the VDue.
I don't know if the double seater db4ie has a carbon fibre monocoque. Just sand it down and see.
I could sand it down to the bare carbon fibre and then clearcoat it, making a carbon dream body. That will take a long time and is not practical because of the crash damage into the carbon fibre. But maybe I'll just sand down some parts to create a nice effect like on the Furano. We'll see how much time I got, Have to get the bike ready for the next track outing in 8 days. _________________ Track riding on a Bimota: FUN! |

My db4 seat unit is fibreglass and i'm pretty sure the rest of the panels are plastic. I know there's a bloke in Greece that makes carbon fibre bodywork for the db4 as i've replaced my bellypan with a carbon fibre unit. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Yes, the fairing parts are plastic. But the seat unit is carbon fibre. I forgot to make a picture, now it's covered with primer. But I will see if I sand it down to the carbon fibre on some areas.
Mine looked like fiberglass too, but down to the bare material it turned out to be carbon fibre.
That guy in Greece sells on ebay too and his work is not really rated top notch all te time, according the feedback
But it's a good source for track bodywork, which I wished I had done before..... _________________ Track riding on a Bimota: FUN! |

Thanks for the compliments. Titanium Akra is from a RSV1000 made to fit on a db4ie exhaust header. It's very light, despite its size and provides reasonable muffling with a db killer inserted (keeps the black flags away over here).
Paint job is inspired by the bb3 as used in the WSBK. Repainted it myself, some flaws because it was my first serious paint job, but these fortunately don't show up on the pictures.... _________________ Track riding on a Bimota: FUN! |
