How much is the 888 sp4 going for? I have been looking to buy one again for a while and my mate may sell his to me but I want to give him a fair price instead of mates rates... _________________ Pomps

I think it's an SP5 - last of the line. Still awaiting confirmation and a price from the owner as the initial enquiry was via a 3rd party.
but I will have your mates at "mates rates" instead...........
also a very nice, low mileage 851 on t'bay at moment for a tad under £5k - just fired off an e-mail for a "buy-it-now" price - waiting............ |

shame really - the monoposto version is such a pretty bike it's begging for a decent motor. And an extra front brake.
I wonder if I could squeeze an SV650 motor in there? |
What's wrong with the Rotax?
In my world, the Rotax/BMW is very decent indeed. Yes, it has only 48hp from out of the box, but can easily be made to give at least 60 and even more if you have the money. I'm slowly getting there with my own Rotax, collecting secondhand parts off e-bay...
An extra front disk is a piece of cake to install, just about any Ducati disk from the same era would do.
However, on the other side, what you really should do, is to get a ISR 6-pot caliper and stay with the single disk to save unsprung weight _________________ Anders

having spent the first couple hours of my night shift reading about BB1's, I have decided not to consider buying one.
Nothing to do with the horrendous vibration, poor handling and braking, tail units catching fire and a myriad of running problems
No - not at all............. |
Horrendous vibration? huh?
Poor handling? Who told you that?
Brakes can easily be improved.
Tail units catching fire? never heard of one.
Running problems?
hmmm...
I have ridden my bb1 approx 20000km over the last 10 years or so, both on road and track. I must admit that it has it's challenges, but all is easily forgotten out on the track. and no, I would not call it a poor handler. _________________ Anders

Hi Anders
no disrepect - I was only quoting from a UK magazine test of the BB1.
see here:-
http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/bimota/bimota_bb1.htm
I have no personal experience of the model, but was intrigued by the unashamed good looks and potential of the bike.
Having toured Spain on a Rotax powered BMW 650 Scarver, I was looking forward to it encapsulating all the good of the Rotax motor in a great chassis.
Good to hear from an owner that it's not all as bad as it seems. |
