yet more woes...
got the pins for the valve working now and cables arrived etc etc
but something didn't seem right.
so I took the servo motor apart to find 2 cogs missing teeth and lots of hardened up oil/grease in there.
I can see it's a Yamaha servo but I don't know what off.
anyone any ideas?
Mine as 73R on the top with 4FM-00 underneath.
No idea what it means as it doesn't appear to be a part no.
Cheers,
Chris |

Thanks Trev. just needed the internals out of it (cogs) so was a simple straight swap. You know what, this bloody bike has never been right since day 1. Now I've straightened the bush, got new cables and changed over the knackered cogs it's runs the valve's perfectly... oh well, live and learn... |

What caused you to decide to dig into that thing in the first place? Was it somehow obviously broken? |

Hi Seth,
A few things really. I had to run my bike in as it was pretty much new when I picked it up from Milan. Some where some weren't.
Once ran it it wouldn't fully rev so started looking around. 1st thing noticed was the powervalve on the lower cylinder had vibrated loose most of the top components of the PV assembly. Once fixed still no better. Noticed the top PV was sticking and my bike always made a clicking noise from the servo when adjusting. Didn't think much of it.
Next thing to go was the top PV snapped its very small locating needle pin.
So given this had a good luck at everthing.
PV pins/rods didn't run up and down freely. Incorrrectly aligned bush.
One cable from servo frayed. Took servo apart to see why it was clicking and 4 teeth missing of 2nd biggest cog and largest cog was warn.
Most likely all this was a knock effect of the sticking PV pin due to mis-alignment I guess. Now it's all much better. don't think it's that common. Seems someone not being that diligent when putting things back together most likely the culprit. |
