Hi, I'm new to the forum, I have loved Bimotas since I watched Tardozzi racing the yb4 in the WSB in 1988. I then got to visit the factory in Rimini when I was up there to race the IOM TT in 1995. They were going to sponsor me to race a Bimota in NZ but it never panned out. The factory was amazing with each bike being individually build by 1 person from scratch.

I have just purchased a yb-6 from Japan and it is an strange colour, does anyone know anything about this colour?

cheers

Well the Bimota Bible Reference book....25 years of Bimota excellence....has no such colours in it...........The Japanese are know for painting their Bimotas up in many weird and wonderful colours with no reference to factory paint schemes...so probably just a one off scheme one owner chose at one time............

Definitely a one off. Your YB6 will attract quite some attention with that paint job.

I agree this one is a one off, however the Japanese market was an important one for bimota.

Respectfully, That does not mean anything when it comes to Bimota!

This is Tokyo Motor Show, and this is one of four special tuataras that went to japan... A very important and privileged market when it came to bimota.

Good Luck!

There are things you can do to eliminate chance, or luck. I'm thinking your bike is a 88 black motor YB? Doesn't really matter.

Chassis, forks shock, replace oils seals and general service.
Pull apart front and rear brake calipers clean all parts, seals pistons and bodies with soft toothbrush using METHYLATED SPIRITS. Inspect and if everything is good which it it should be reassemble using rubber grease.
If and seals grow, all you have to do is leave them for 24 hours dry and they will come back to their original dimensions.

Inspect everything, spin the wheels and check that there is no noise. Change fluids in brakes and clutch. Don't take short cuts or assume that anything will be okay.

Engine, these are mandatory:
New oem spark plugs, change every oil change.
Oil and filter. Valve clearances. (set wide) Water Pump and all orings on associated pipes, cleaning everything as you go and again using rubber grease or water based lube to reassemble. Carbs will need to be cleaned, do the factory pro choke circuit mods, rejet to 127 2-4 and 130 outside. (good starting point)
Clutch, get rid of the narrow center plate with the spring steel ring, and replace it with a full clutch plate. Do the factory pro clutch oil mod.
Barnett clutch springs are a must.

Not mandatory:
Fit an unoiled k&n filter.
Debaffel the exhaust.
Recarb (worth up to 10 rwhp)

Anyway, just a few tips. Once you get to know the FZR-YZF family of engines, it is amazing how much performance you can milk out of a YB without sacrificing reliability.

Pm me and I will send you the OW01 YEC kit manual. Useful.

Good luck with it Cool

Shes arrived, the paint work is air brushed by Sugi Racing in Japan, it is stunning. The bike looks mint, everything is like brand new, still on the original hi-sports!

Thanks Hursty, im at Red Baron, drop in on the sb6 some time.

Desmopiega the colour looks way better in real life than pics. A work of art really, i will get a set of race fairings and put these away safe. I will also store the fzr1000t motor, the electrics, switch blocks, speedo, etc.

I had found an old exup motor with a bottom end rattle, however I remembered the bike, it was owned by a mate of mine and he said it was fully ported, new wiseco 1040 pistons fitted, new exup rods, new gears where needed in the gearbox and dogs back cut, He said when they started it up for the first time and she rattled so it has not been ridden and has sat for the last 6 or 7 years at least. We will strip it and re-build from scratch, meanwhile this mate also offered me a free exup engine he had found to put in his old bike.

I have a trick shock and will eventually kit the M1Rs.

I'll keep you posted.

cheers

1252 km's, the tyres look new.

The suspension linkages are fine, the rear brake master cylinder is stuck. The front brakes are working just.

The air filter is like new so we flushed the tank and and put some fresh gas in, a new battery and some work on freeing up the choke rod and she fired right up. The carbs need cleaning as there was a lot of back firing but the motor sounds sweet. The clutch is really nice as well.

The sato 4 into 1 is sweet with each pipe closely following the shape of the sump.

Does anyone know if this gensis model exhaust will work with the exup engine?

Is the flange diameter the same between gensis and exup?

Are the studs and spacing the same, anyone know?

So that's just like a new bike. Very nice.

I'm not sure what the Genesis model is.

There are basically 3 generations of FZR1000 motor: 87-88, 89-95, 96-99.

The 2GH 87-88 motor has a capacity of 989cc.

All YB8s I've seen have the 89-95 FZR motor with the 3GM engine number prefix, which is about 1004cc. These are a much better motor than the earlier one.

The last series is the 4SV YZF1000 Thunderace motor. Again, a better motor but not significantly. These are too new to have been installed in a YB8 from the factory.
