I finally find the time to write a post or two about my DB7… Steve already teased me few times, so I ran out of excuses…
A few basics first - Bought in Italy in January with zero miles. I actually waited till July to register it and started to ride… and since then covered about 5000 miles. It is one of the last DB7’s made - it have DB8 front discs, DB8 rear shock and STM slipper clutch. Bike have Bimota factory fitted Continental tyres… I’ll try to write some impressions, but first here is the pic from ride over our highest mountain pass Vrsic:

Welll....firstly Welcome back Jure....and nice piccie also..........Not surprised you've been away for so long.....didnt register until July and 5,000 miles since then....!!!!!!!!!!!......You have been a busy boy....and congrats...nice to see you putting some miles on a Bimota...its what they're best for...

One of the lads you met at the TT would be interested to know what you think of the DB7...say compared to the DB%...and the slipper clutch....as he has a DB7 that Santa Claus is bringing from GErmany.....so hopefully the reindeer will get a crack on and deliver it in time for him....

Hi Steve… Nice to be back!!! It’s been a while yes Wink. That is great news that another DB7 is coming to UK!!!

Maybe first… self confessions what I bought it in the first place? Well I liked the bike from first photos in 2007, but I newer dreamed to have one.

The best thing is - it’s probably my only bike that I didn’t have to change almost anything… with other bikes (new or used) the first thing that I do, I make a list of modifications.

Second thing that I liked is higher power that I’m used to (around +100HP)… Still thinks that this is plenty for the road (for V2 engine), but when I’m on racetrack, my DB5 can be slowish on long straights by current high HP machines Wink. So wanted to explore a little more omph..

It is one of the last bikes without extensive electronic aid. I’m not against it and it is excellent regarding safety in critical situations. But for my usage I prefer to have a little respect while riding - and exploring the limits of the bike is more complex, tricky and fun process.

Back to the looks - even almost eight years from first appearance and it is still gorgeous… If I dear to compare it with BB3, it has loads more character and desirability. Put is simply, it is much bolder. Maybe I’m ready for some specialist appointment, but I can stare and explore angles and details whole day on…

The size iz interesting part… Used to very skinny DB5, I didn’t notice this right away, but the bike is small. In comprising to 10/1198 it is quite shorter (less overhang elements than Ducati). Ducati feels very loooong… RSV is not big bike, but is quite fatter in comprising to DB7. And street presence is unbelievable and almost annoying. Whenever I stop there is immediately someone who want to talk or take a photo. Every time…

It is a nice bike Jure....and glad that you are getting to use it...hopefully your DB5Mille still gets a look in for the odd ride? It will start mis-behaving itself if you dont use that one as well.....Bimotas like to be together....but they get jealous of overlooked by one of the fold being used more than the other..... Laughing

I've never seen a BB3 in the flesh...and although the design is growing on me a little....I still think that the DB7/8 is the last great looking Bimota design to date.....and more "bimota" style than the BB3...in that it is slim, light, short, radical and "basic" with just merely an electronic display and nothing else....a true riders bike...no ABS,,,,traction control....winter mode etc etc....Enjoy......Perhaps I'll have another one again at some time

Brian, thanks! Steve don’t worry… DB5 was this year driven in Misano racetrack and also some miles in the hills between Bologna and Tuscany. I distribute my love and care evenly… Embarassed

If you asked for direct comparison between DB5 and DB7… DB5 is a tad more comfortable and you sit more in the bike rather than on top like on DB7. This feeling is amplified because of the lower faring of DB7. You can feel that DB5 is lighter bike, but it have more classic Ducati geometry (tendency to go straight). It is flickable because of the light weight, where DB7 goes easier into the corners because of geometry. DB5 Ohlins is excellent because of the characteristics with light load… DB7 suspensions is stiffer, but not overly like it vas criticised in the press… It is sport bike after all… So it is just fine also for normal ride and it is not uncomfortable. Infact - overall DB7 is reasonable conformable sport bike. On DB5 I have separate pads in front, therefore the brake is quite nervous, but supper strong (even with smaller disc). DB7 brakes are even stronger but more forgiving…

Sounds like you're enjoying the db7, as well you should Laughing

There's so many wonderful mtorcycles that I'd love to be lucky enough to own one day, but doubt that i will Crying or Very sad . Never say never i suppose, I never thought i'd get to ride let alone own a Bimota. Probably a good thing that i don't have lots of money... I walked past a bike shop last week and a BRIGHT yellow Buell stood out to me, i seriously thought about taking it for a test ride but declined only because i had no riding gear at the time. Strange... I had never even considdered buying a Buell before. I have a weakness for things that twinkle in the sunlight Shocked

I must write something about the engine… It is one of the best things about DB7… I generally love the Ducati V2 because of the way that I ride - more with torque that with revs. Bimota went on the path to made different electronics from Ducati which seams from outside like mad thing to do associated with all sorts of stereotype electrical problems. But with DB7 the result were never emphasised enough… It is brilliant! There is substantial more torque and power between 4000 and 7000 rpm, with only few HP lost at the top end few Nm less. Exactly where you stay most of the time during riding, overtaking or driving out of the bends. In comprising with 1098, DB7 feels much stronger and faster. With lighter weight in mind, it is even more agile… So quite genius Bimota trick on the same hardware. If you add quite quicker steering than with1098, you get totally different bike… Here is power/torque diagram from Motorrad:

Some update from my DB7... Finally got rid of cat - this effectively means - 6 kg measured with my kitchen scales Shocked

Anyway I also polished the front pipes and de-cat manifold is really tricky tight fit. The sound is not particularly louder, but canister sound (plank plank) of all new V2 with catalysator is gone. End can also come a little shorter now. In fact, feeling quite smug right now... Cool

Nice bit of polishing...and nice link pipes Jure......where'd you buy those from???

Still have a spare 6Kilo cat box from a DB7 in my garage...phenomenal mass for something so smallish really....and twas a pig to remove with the way it fits.......

Experienced the same as yourself.....end exhaust noise wasnt appeciably any louder...although starting was a bit easier......
