|
|
In 1991 Bimota, keen to show the alternative technology that was the Tesi 1D to the world, embarked on an under-funded campaign (sound familiar?) into WSB.They contested the first 6 of the scheduled 13 rounds before being forced to quit when no sponsors were found and the money ran out. The season went so :-
Round 1 - Donington Park, UK
according to the official entry list, both Vittorio Scatola and Steve Manley were to ride the same bike - #41 !
It was Steve Manley who rode the bike to 15th place in race 1 and 20th in race 2.
Round 2 - Jarama, Spain.
Dominique Sarron - yes that one! - was entered to ride bike #77. He retired with engine failure in race 1 and achieved 13th place in race 2.
Round 3 - Mosport Park, Canada.
Mike Baldwin was entered on bike #37, but didn't ride it.
Round 4 - Brainerd, USA.
No entries listed.
Round 5 - Osterreichring, Austria.
Russell Lee Wood (bike #71) took over the factory ride, retiring in race 1 and scoring 1 point for a 15th place finish in race 2.
Round 6 - Misano, Italy.
Both Russell Lee Wood (#71) and Vittorio Scattala (#77) appeared on the entry list but the only race records are for Russell, who came 14th in race 1 and improved to finish in 10th place in race 2.
and that was to be the final race in WSB competition for the much-maligned Tesi's..... _________________ Bimota SB6 and Benelli TNT 899S road bikes.

interesting side-note to an interesting side-note - Dale Quarterly is the sole reason that Airtech US have moulds for Tesi 1D bodywork.
They supplied Dale with replacements after every crash. They supplied a lot of bodywork. _________________ Bimota SB6 and Benelli TNT 899S road bikes.

Many many Thanks for postage this, I just love this bike but sadly never able to aquire one.
I remember just being piped at 10k for a very low milage bike back in mid to late 80s.
But I had to respectfully expect a max bid selling as my wife agreed to the purchsae, anyhow this brings a smile to my face.
Cheers _________________ I want one |
