Puzzle time again.Did all SB6 (not R) have the same GSXR 1100 engine type. Using the info below,my engine code U715 gives me
U) 1000-1098 7 ) FOUR STROKE
15) 15th developement

It still leave me with the question is my engine out of the
GSXR 1100 G,H,J,K, (86-89) MODEL,as these all had 1052cc motors as
opposed to the later(90-93) 1127cc motors

Engine code

Suzuki uses generally a three-digit engine code starting with a letter and ending with two numbers that reveal the cylinder displacement and type of the engine.

Piston displacement Engine type Design sequence
A —49cc
B 50—69cc
C 70—79cc
D 80—89cc
E 90—99cc
F 100—124cc
G 125—149cc
H 150—199cc
J 200—249cc
K 250—399cc
M 400—499cc
N 500—599cc
P 600—699cc
R 700—749cc
S 750—849cc
T 850—999cc
U 1000—1099cc
V 1100—1199cc
W 1200—1299cc
X 1300—1399cc
Y 1400—1499cc
Z 1500—

The same codes are used in the VDS code.
1 Two-stroke, single
2 Two-stroke, twin
3 Two-stroke, triple or four
4 Four-stroke, single
5 Four-stroke, twin
6 -
7 Four-stroke, four

The same codes are used in the VDS code. Unlike type, the sequence number for engine uses a two-digit number starting with 01. Because of the late introduction of this code system, the engines used on several Suzuki models don't use this system. For example, the engine code of the GSX750S is the same as its frame type, GS75X.

Regarding R7** class, the GS750 is thought as the first version of the engine type, but it is not confirmed by Suzuki if they count it as 01.
R 7 19

The example above is showing the engine code of the 1990-year's GSX-R750 (R719), the 19th development version of a inline-four four-stroke engine.

No Martin, your engine is not out of the GSXR 1100 G,H.J.K as they were all oil cooled. in fact the K model is an 1127cc.
Yours (should be) is a water cooled from 93 on GSXR 1100, hence the radiator header tank in front of the battery's Wink

OK,my error,where water cooled version could be GSXR1100 U (1997)
other water cooled 1100 were
P- 93 R -94 S -95 T -96 V -98

Did SB6`s come with other year versions or were all the same. ?

Can't remember what years the SB6 were made, was it 94 to 97?
if so, obviously, engines after that year could not have been used so that narrows it down a little more.
I'll have a look at my engine number when I get home tonight but I'm betting, despite my bike being registerd in 98, the engine will be earlier Wink

As far as I know, they all used the same water cooled 1074 motor which didn't undergo any changes, throughout the production run, albeit the GSXR 11 to which it was fitted did go through some non-motor-related changes.

strings NEW ENGINE and SB6 thermostat brought this back to me.

I know the motor is a GSXR1100W , but is that a P,R,S or T
Did Bimota get Suzuki to change some external/internals or did they
do that themseleves.

I feel a bit of a twat ordering parts that look the same in the manuals
to find when I get them, they are subtly different. Confused

I have downloaded all I could find from

http://oldskoolsuzuki.info check the seven-eleven tag

and

http://www.carlsalter.com check the manuals tag ,they seem to have
manuals for all bikes apart from Bims.

There are very few diferences between the WP, WR, WS and WT engines (except the head mounting lug as recently discoverd Laughing ) I always order engine parts for the WT and have never tripped up yet Wink
This of course only applies to engine parts Wink

I believe the engines were the same in all SB6's. I recall reading somewhere that Bimota modified the exhaust ports and maybe something else that added the extra midrange power. Suzuki incorporated these changes and some others in later production years. The U-motor was not used in a Suzuki model bike.

Nah - Bimota kept them standard. The most they "might" have done is mod the inlet cam but frankly I doubt it lets face it the 1100W isn't short of low/mid range. 6R's put out more horses due to the airbox and airflow being better. All the Bimota engines have that number.

BHP = Brochure Horse Power.
I've had 185 mph on the clock out of my YB10 but I suspect Bimota "tuned" the bike when they redid the face on the clocks. Wink
