I know it's in the lower piece which I assume screws together, but I couldn't split it so left it alone. It's probably just the Suzuki part. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Looks like a GSXR 1100 piece. i replaced the fan thermal switch and that was same source. Check with a Suzuki dealer. Really helpful dealer sent me a scan of the parts catalogue when i enquired. |

Both my thermostat housing and pipework is the same as yours evilchuck and I'm confident it's not GSXR.
The housing dosen't seem to screw apart as I've managed to turn the two halves and they just keep turning without unscrewing. It seems to be a sealed unit |

Yes that's the conclusion I came to, but if that's the case .... how did they get it in there to begin with ????? Maybe theres a lip that locates to take the pressure ???
Take the whole thing to a man with a lathe. Cut the less smaller dia bit off and save the more complex piece and replace it. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

I am a man with a lathe
Looks like the two halves have been pushed together and then the edge of the large bit has been "rolled" over to hold the small bit
Mine doesn't seem to have a thermostat in it anyway so some one more clever than I has either had it apart OR drilled out the thermostat. There seems to be the remains of something in there so I'm going for the second option |

After doing a bit more homework..................
SB6, SB7 and SB6R thermostats have the same part number.
They ARE sealed units from the factory so, if you can find one, you have to buy the whole thing. You can't just replace the thermostat in the housing
Being as mine dosn't seem to have a thermostat in it anyway, and I can't find a replacement at the moment, I'm just going to turn up a less bulky, straight through housing |

Suzuki's are a big, bulky affair with big flanges to hold the two halves together. It would never fit in the limited space available.
My problem is finding a thermostat with the right dimensions then I'll turn a new housing that SCREWS together so the thermostat can be changed if required |

Here we go.........
popped the housing in the lathe and turned off the bit that was holding it all together......
The remains of the thermostat has no markings on it so I'm a bit stuffed as to what it's out of.
A standard GSXR is 48mm diameter but this one is only 35mm diameter
Anyone have any idea how to find a 35mm thermostat so I can turn a new housing that screws together???

A smaller capacity bike bike maybe a 250. What you need then is the rating in deg C _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Oily, the stat was a Bimota specific item, made for the SB6/7/6R. I junked mine and the bypass pipework to make it simple. Your plan to make a straight coupling will work best!
I may still have the one I took off kicking around in the unit, but in honesty you're better off without it. Especially if it's for the bike with the tuned motor!
Hope this helps,
Daz. _________________ It's mine and I'll wash it as fast as I like! |

Thanks for that Daz, Already turned up a straight coupler
BUT I'd still be interested in yours if you can find it so at least I can use it if I have to put a standard engine back in |
