Howdy all,

My bike has developed a weeping oil leak under the bottom of the chain, it looks like it is either the countershaft sprocket OR the WD40 i sprayed my chain with before the last ride has penetrated the o-rings and the grease has wept. I haven't had the time or space to look deeper at the moment.

If it is the countershaft sprocket, i am thinking that if i need to drop the engine, i may as well make it worth my while.

Can anyone give feedback about what is the better option of either polishing or plating the frame/swingarm.

I am a little gun shy of polishing after seeing the amount of material that was removed from my wheels when they were polished.

I have heard nickel plating is fantastic, anyone have experience thoughts?

What other mods should i consider if i end up doing this? I believe the bike is 100% stock. Whenever it rains (rarely) the bike sometimes drops a cylinder, and i have heard the coils are crap, is this true.

What is the altenator mod that i hear about???

The choke cable broke and i replaced it with a standard GSXR WP cable, only to find that the switchblock is not a GSXR! It is a CBR switchblock WTF!! I assume a stock CBR choke cable isn't suitable, so i am considering buying a GSXR switchblock and converting the plug to suit the Bimota harness, anyone had similar problems and found a solution (other than ordering a standard cable from Bimota)?

Steve, could your leak be hydraulic fluid from the clutch slave cylinder? Common problem with these.

I had a Nickel plated frame, years ago, on a Suzuki Beamish trials bike.
A bit more of the plating peeled off every time I draged it out of the shed
Why not polish the frame yourself?
Just use wet 'n' dry paper to take the anodising off and then plenty of elbow power. Shouldent be removing any metal that way but it's a job you'll wish you hadent started
Could always have it re anodised. I've seen one that's been powder coated and it wasen't good


Yes, Suzuki coils are crap. Swap em for a set of Dyna coils.

I, for one, diden't know the switchblock was cbr
How do you know the cbr cable won't fit.
Cables are easy to make or have made as long as you've got the old one as a pattern, easy peasy

I do a lot of polishing and for frames and swing arms that have been anodised i normaly use a chemical bath to remove the plating so no removel of metal . with wheels normaly being sand cast you do have to remove a bit of the surface metal .
R1's are the best as the frame is 70% finished its just the lower part is the pain if the customer wants it all blending in to the frame rails .
if you want your swing arm polished send me a picture of it and i will give you a price .
I dont do polishing for customers anymore as it is a filthy job but i still have all the equipment , it takes me ages to get clean after i finish but i do do it for mates , i try not to do frames anymore as i does my back in but im allways up for a chalange.
the most common parts i do are fork legs , and engine cases normaly after a bad winter

Just a note on plating , Alloy plating is very hard to get right so you will need to find a very good plater with a track record of alloy plating .

Considering it's anodised already, would you be going for a colour change?
Most colours would go with black but what would be tasteful

My choice would be to go for a matt black finish for frame and swing arm to give it a gp look ...

Got to agree woth oily,

It would be too black...

I did consider gold to match the forks, but it would look to much like a cheap dress watch if you know what i mean.

The blues and reds available look great, but i just couldn't do it.

I really would like a polished frame, there are many SB6's out there with polished frames and they look great, so maybe a glossy silver anodising

Update on the oil drip, it isn't the slave cylinder as the res is still full

I am pretty sure it is the remnats of WD40 getting past the o-rings and breaking down the grease. I don't know what made me spray it on the chain I know the stuff is a penatrant.

Black anodised frame would look good and should be tough.

Personally not keen on polished alloy frames.
