Hi guys,......new here..need a little guidance concerning a new set of sprocket/chain set I wish to put on.
Have a SB 6 1994 - believe that it has a 535 and wish to go to a much more easily available 520 or 525 for a Suz 1994 1100W.........will the sprockets fit on the Bimota rims??? Anyone have any suggestions since the 535 is unusual-few made therefore expensice and totally unnecessary in my view
Advise please

Thanks Red

Hi Red, welcome to the forum Wink
Just for you, I've just spent ten minutes trying to fit a GSXR 1100 rear sproket to a Bimota rear wheel Shocked

No..it won't fit, the hole in the centre of the sproket is a fraction too small.
The nice new alloy/titanium rear sproket on my SB6 came from SUPERSPROX
Email them, they should have them on the shelf Wink

oh yeah, fill your profile in and let's see a picture of your bike Laughing
we love pictures Wink

I've fitted a 530 ring and chain set to my 6R and had 4000 miles of happy blatting out of it, with no significant stretching of the chain or wear of the sprockets. Rear sprocket is Talon, hard anodised for durability and front is Renthal 289-530-15P which is also a harder compound.

Any ideas on this matter?
Do you guys know the teeth proportion ?.sorry forgot the proper wording

Yep,had this problem myself,if it is ANTERA wheels, rear sprocket took
some research. Front sprocket because on a suzuki engine spline is
thiers.

Rear sprocket I got from

http://www.jtsprockets.com

Nearest I could find was for a TRIUMPH 1200 DAYTONA USA
( JTR 2010.42)
it is a 530 tooth pitch 42 tooth with the mounting holes dia at 110
and a 80 mm internal

when matched to the ANTERRA wheel, I had to redrill 2 holes on the
sprocket simples Very Happy

Red, the bottom line is, all the major sprocket companies, like supersprox, JT and B&C, will probably have yours on the shelf, if not they will knock you one up to your spec at, normaly, no extra cost Wink

You're probably right but - just to keep you waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat Laughing the Japanese chain manufacturers only recommend 525s for up to 750, albeit DID do a 525 in a ZVM2 x-ring that they say is alright for 1100s, but it's the only one in their range that is. You're probably OK with 525 in a good quality Japanese chain, but I'd give Regina (Bim original eqp't) a very wide berth, as I've heard of 6 owners having them break. They're not made to the same tolerances as the Jap chains, so they wear quicker - however good you are at ensuring your missus gets on her hands and knees with the lube every time you get back from a run!

What ever size you do use,520,525,530
do use the correct pitch sprockets, unlike some people
I know who ran different pitch sprocket/chain and wondered
why they were knackered in 6 months Embarassed

well fellas,.....after closer inspection.....saw that I have a 532 chain- very unusual or not.......is this the standard deal on the SB 6
How do you go about changing the front sprocket guys.......do I assume correct that the engine needs to come out for a sprocket change...please tell me I see this wrong

I'm pretty sure that Bimota fitted 530 chain to all the SB6s, but I'm not sure that Suzuki didn't fit 532 to the GSXR11. So perhaps a previous owner of your bike thought that it would be as well to fit 532 as a replacement for the original 530. 532 is slightly stronger than 530, but it was developed when chain technology was not what it is today. You would be fine with a current 530 chain from DID or Tsubaki with sprockets of the same pitch.

You will have to pivot the motor off the front upper mounting (i.e. remove the rear upper and lower mountings) to get access to the engine sprocket, but don't drop the whole engine out as you will need a means of preventing the chain from turning to loosen the engine sprocket nut. That nut can be very tight indeed, particularly if it's been loctited, as the originals often were. If, as seems likely, the chain's been changed at least once, it may not be too bad - but brace yourself for the possibility of having to cut it off, as I had to with the last one I did, after applying a breaker bar with a 3ft steel tube slid over the end of it, to no avail! Why they felt the need to locite what is a locking nut held in place by another bolt and washer is beyond me. I know it's not a nut you want coming loose while you're riding, but you've got to be able to get it off to change the chain. Enough of a rant. Suffice to say, good luck mate!
