If the discs haven't done many miles but are rattling then it's probably just the spring washers, they go flat so the disc isn't held onto the edge of the bobbin.
Iron rich discs are good but more modern stainless / pads should give equal stopping power, but the two feel different. The Bims brakes don't bite straight away but when the heat builds a bit they really pull the bike down.

Theres always 2 views with 2 types of discs....all welcome...and as you say...could just be the feel......best stopping ability I have of all my bikes has to be the Vdue...SS brembo discs and standard gold series master and calipers...finger tip and its right on it...would think the larger separate padded radial set ups on my 5R and 6R would be better but just dont feel so.........but I do like the solidity of the cast iron brembos on my DB2...and operating from "lowly" gold series calipers and master...only run it when dry though really...but I love the bite and the rattle.... Laughing

I always thought that cast iron discs were better until recently.

However, with my change of wheels on the YB8, I went from the standard 320mm cast iron to the 320mm R1 stainless steel discs. I changed to Brembo pads which suit the ss discs.

On the race track, I couldn't tell the difference between the two set ups. Both having heaps of bite enabling one finger braking and both were progressive. It made me wonder if something was up with my TZ250A brakes as the YB8 brakes felt much better!

Modern OEM ss discs are worlds better than the old boat anchors that came on CB750s.

How and where are you picking up speed readings? Did you replace the forks and the speedo?

Bud977, your swap is awesome but I think its pretty complecated

Thank you in advance

OPPPS sorry that should be Axial calipers !!!
Not really that complicated.
The callipers are still the 40mm bolt spacing like the originals so they bolt on. The brake lines are Hel race style so 2 lines from the master cylinder. I got original type but because it was easier but I could have used a direct bolt in type as opposed to banjo fittings because the callipers are slightly different.
The radial master needed a new bracket to hold the reservoir I used an existing threaded hole in the clipon mount. I used a radial / axial line converter because there's no brake light switch on the master, this setup keeps it a little bit more compact.

Look the thing with brake lines is they can't go tight because they put pressure on the banjo fittings. That in turn can cause them to crack and you really don't want that !!! So order a 2 line kit (Hel will have the measurements) with a line separator block and live with the slack in the lines, it's there for a reason. I use "carbon" look which is just translucent grey heatshrink, you hardly notice them. You could have black lines which would be less noticeable

Length of standard fit bimota front brake lines (from centre of banjo bolt):

Top line 350mm
Both bottom lines 460mm

There is no fixing to the triple clamp or fork tube, the whole assembly sits in front of the headstock.
.....if someone explains how to do it I'll post a photo of the setup.

Tlmania, thank you very much. That what I was looking for

Another question /request. Can someone snap a picture clutch side master cylinder and the fitting that is attached to it? I need to see the angle of bend of the hose

Another question /request. Can someone snap a picture of a clutch side master cylinder and the fitting that is attached to it? I need to see the bend angle of this fitting. When I turn my wheel all the way to the right, it touches the instrument cluster and I think is not the right fitting

Thank you in advance

What happens when you turn the wheel all the way to the left? does the LHS switchgear and your thumb easily clear from hitting the tank/frame?....And the same on the RHS when turning all the way to the right...In which case you can slacken off the clip-ons and move then slightly back towards yourself so that the clutch master line clears the instrument cluster??

Always a fine line with any bike clearance on lock to lock between hitting instruments or the clocks or the tank.

Alternatively....as the left side switchgear should be held captive with a drilled hole in the clip on bar...you could slacken the clip on bar from its clip on and turn one way or the other so it doesnt hit the clocks???

I know that but it looks that a previous owner replaced OEM braided lines with some crappy aftermarket rubber lines and possibly installed / chose lines with incorrect end fitting on the clutch side. That's why I am asking for help/pics

It is about 15 degrees

As far as discs go all these share the 80mm PCD, and the correct offset for the YB11. I don't think its particularly important to have high iron content discs, the YB series full rattlers wear out quickly (at the bobbins, are a mess any time you are not riding them (rust)

A good quality set of stainless steel brembo, or EBC discs with pads that suit your riding style will serve you well, for example full sintered for race and track use, to organic if you do within the law road riding. Full sintered wear the discs quickly because of there enthusiastic bite into the rotars, and hence quick aggressive stopping, and organic, its the pads that wear not the discs so much.

Here's a list of discs compatible with the YB11, the earlier YB's have massive offset so this doesn't apply to them, though 80 mm spacers are available in varying thickness.

Heres a list of compatible discs, it's long but a good thing to have on file Smile

Who, thank you very much. That is what I was looking for! I appreciate you posting a comprehensive brake rotor list. I already got that. I also found out that it should be no problem fitting any of these rotors and installing metal bolts in those disks as on the original disks. Even though there are only 10 bobins on stainless steel rotors and not 12 as on the original metal rotors, speedo will work just fine. From what I was explained it works on the principal of braking magnetic field and it doesn't matter if the distances are bit smaller as long as there are same number of bolts n the rotors.

So, I will be installing rotors from my spare Aprilia Falco or Benelli Tornado wheels

I am working on getting this bike fully road worthy. For some strange reason the brake lines are not braided and are regular rubber lines. I also think that when these were installed the clutch side was tightened up under the wrong angle. So, I am ordering new braided lines and should have itr ready for the ride shortly.

Another question I have is in regards to the bar ends. Do the original bars have removable bar ends? It seems, at least on mine. that they are not removable. If anyone one know please chime in. I would like to install better looking and heavier bar ends.

Thanks for everyone's help
